The fact that you learned this today from a tweet is much more worrisome than someone going to college.

They aren't even good for that anymore.

That may be true. But until companies hope on the same bandwagon it doesn’t really matter.
Yes I could have learned everything I needed to become a CPA online, but no company would really hire me, and the state board wouldn’t grant me a license.

Yea, i did undergrad and grad school at sec schools. It was not difficult. MBA school was just activity hour for future HR women and "consultants".

Yes, even the colleges themselves often offer a free syllabus search where you can see the learning framework, see which books are being used etc. And you can often get the textbook for free from the library system or online.
What college does is allow you some special networking. You can shake hands & have professor fancypants vouch for you. That will open a lot more doors than your degree. How much is that worth though?? 200k? 20k? Hard to say

Too bad corporations are stuck on seeing a compliance completion paper.

Young people need to pick college degrees that relate to demand. Years ago it was 'Be a doctor or a lawyer'. It's a much cheaper and shorter path to being a nurse or medical lab tech and those jobs have high demand. And we already have more lawyers than the rest of the world combined. It's not a guarantee of financial success.
