The Greatest Titanic Casualty

It happened 114 years ago today. The Titanic went down.
When alerted of the disaster Benjamin S. Guggenheim and his secretary changed into their white ties and tails so that they could go down as gentlemen. The two men then helped load lifeboats.
Guggenheim said to the occupants of one lifeboat, "Tell my wife that I played it straight all the way to the end. There is not a woman or child onboard this ship who will die because I was a coward."
When last seen Guggenheim was drinking a snifter of brandy and smoking a cigar.
Here's to you, Ben.

You’ll never guess who sunk the titanic

In a surprise twist of fate, the Federal Reserve was created the year after the Titanic met her demise.

At the museum in NOLA last October, I was a Syrian immigrant heading to Columbus, OH to start a new life. I was third class and died. Everyone in my family did as well, except my daughter, who was the heir to White Star Lines, and she obviously was first class and was on one of the first lifeboats
.
If that museum ever comes back to NOLA, I recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the Titanic, as it was very interesting.

alright. Titanic survival war game scenario...
It sank in 2hrs and 40 mins
Could you build a shitty raft out of some pool chairs and life jackets tied together?

You will never guess who claims to have designed and built the Titanic all for a giant white iceberg to sink it.

What? All you need is a decent sized piece of broken door.........as long as some hateful hussy hasn't claimed it first and tells you there is no room.

I think the North Atlantic Ocean is pretty cold this time of year. Hypothermia could have been an issue.

My theory is that he had an epiphany and realized he was going to be stuck living like a poor with a high-maintenance bitch, and decided that he would be better off freezing to death in the North Atlantic.

Chef Charles Joughin got really drunk and survived for two hours in the water with no issues. He also helped get women and children in lifeboats and turned down a spot.
In Titanic they show him next to Rose as the ship makes its final plunge.

Ever been to the Titanic in Gatlinburg? Interesting place. What I remember most is how cold the simulated ocean water was in the museum there. I don't see how anyone lasted longer than 60 seconds in that cold water.

Harry Elkins Widener also died on the Titanic. He was a 1907 Harvard graduate. His mother donated $2 million and Harry’s collection of 3,300 books to build the Widener Library on campus. They recreated his library/reading room with period furnishings, etc and they have a display of memorabilia related to the Titanic. It was pretty cool to see it in person.
They check your ID on the way in to verify you belong there and search your backpack on the way out.

It’s too bad the technology wasn’t available back then for him to post it on TikTok.
