1000 vets, 10% is 100 actively engaged, 28% is 28 with PTSD is how I read that.

There are a lot of medically retired vets out there that had a breakdown because they had a disagreement with their NCOIC.

It's pretty bad.

what if you're a DoD civilian in the ME and your base gets bombed?

They can still get ptsd even though they're not there for combat purposes.

PTSD is way over diagnosed.

If I told you some of the stuff I saw, you'd think I was lying. (I'm not talking about combat. Just run of the mill stateside duty.) People can turn into a blubbering mess because they got an article 15 for some trivial thing.

Trump really is the great unifier. Democrats have been complaining about veterans benefits for years, too

Injuries in hostile fire/imminent danger zones probably play into this. Last I saw all of the AOR falls into this category.

Everybody in the AOR gets hostile fire pay while deployed. When I retired it was about $250 a month.

The failure starts at the MEPS centers.

I know two "vets" who are on 100% disability; both of which shouldn't be. Are the VA docs on the take?

They didn’t get disability approved through VA docs. In fact, most VA docs work closely with the bureaucrats who decided these ratings to lower the percentage.

If a veteran has a 100% T and P rating they got it with the help of doctors outside of the VA system.

Take a medical unit in Afghanistan. You have minimal combat personnel but from time to time they would come under mortar fire that would require all personnel to shelter in bunkers until the insurgents could be taken out. Non-combat personnel aren't all prepared for that.
Plus, those people are classified through the VA as PTSD, not just on their own word.

There are a lot of people who play the disability game post enlistment to get portions of their retirement to be non-taxable. So not all people who have disabled veteran tags are actually disabled.

Not necessarily, the system is just fubar. I've known people who'd been out of the service for decades, never asked the VA for jack and they get a notice saying their disability had been increased from 50% to 100% (or some other number) when they were well into their 60s. There may be some perverse incentive where the docs are graded on percentages, I have no idea, but weird stuff happens without kickbacks.

That’s an auto 10%. Which is about $180/month.
