Hi guys

45 male and in the gym 6x a week. With my family history and calcium score my doctor wanted me on a statin 2 years ago but i took Lipitor and felt so bad after 3 weeks I had to stop.

I revisited it again with him last week and he prescribed the shot Repatha. I did it Saturday and feel like I have the flu and cant really lift my muscles hurt so bad. Its like every old injury Ive had is turned up by 10. Knee, neck, shoulder, etc.

Anyone no have side effects with a certain statin? I hate taking two extra pills because they want me to take Cq10 with it, but i have a resting heart rate of 42 and cq10 lowers blood pressure so I was so lightheaded when I took it.

I just want a low dose statin that wont make me feel like my body is broken.

Repatha generally has much lower side effects compared to Statins. I started Repatha 3 months ago and zero side effects. Perhaps it was coincidence that you felt that way after the shot. You should take the second shot when it’s due and find out if you feel the same before giving up on Repatha

My bad I forgot. I post in Reddit so got them mixed up

I also didn’t have repatha when I posted it

To the poster above? Do you take it every 2 weeks? Where do you inject?

I had essentially no side effects with either generic Zocor or Lipitor.

No. I'm anti prescriptions and have asked my PCP for a low dose statin

Try red yeast rice. It is chemically identical to statin drugs.

For all you clueless downvoters--

quote:

Largest meta-analysis to date on statins and dementia risk, including 55 studies and more than 7 million patients.
Statin use linked to lower risks of all-dementia, AD, and VaD.
Numerous significant subgroup results highlight statins' diverse neuroprotective effects.
Findings support statins as a public health tool, especially in low-income countries.
Future research should explore the impact of statins across diverse patient populations.

I've been on Lipitor for about 25 years. I was on 20mg. Now, 40mg, but my doctor made that change 4 years ago when I weighed in at nearly 240# and was a slug with a BMI of 35.1.

I'm down to a BMI of 26.3 and working it down further and further through a modified diet and an elevated level of physical activity on my part. Later this week I have my annual physical. I believe my dosage is overkill after dropping over 60 pounds. I've experienced dizziness and light-headedness standing up from sitting, but interestingly, it only occurs at night, when the lights are low, and when I stand up, my vision sort of clouds over peripherally, like how you can vignette a photo on your computer, or using a lens on a camera where it creates boca and everything looks out of focus except what the camera is focused on. I have to steady myself or immediately sit down. I explained this phenomenon to my eye surgeon. He examined me and said that my blood-pressure medication, Diovan HCT might be too strong as well, so, I have something to discuss when I have my physi(cough)cal. At my age, I guess I should just appreciate the attention.

I’ve had bad bloodwork my entire life and bad family history. Got on statins in my mid 30s and probably should have done it sooner. I’m thin and fit but have bad genetics.

I think they increase your risk of diabetes. Read a study recently to that effect.

I don’t like taking statins, but it’s better than dropping dead of a heart attack in my 40s.

I guarantee the idiots in this thread downvoting the concept of statins have higher than optimal LDL and a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease.

Agreed. Especially in light of the detailed, scientific study of Dementia I posted.

Ask doc to let you try Crestor. A friend of mine said Lipitor made his joints aches whereas Crestor worked fine with no aches.
