Upvote if yes, downvote if no.

I’ll be the first downvote on my own post. I think Olave is a very talented player but I just cant hand him a $120+ million contract. To me he’s an ideal #2 on a playoff caliber team but he’s not Jamar Chase, JJ, Puka Nacua, JSN, etc. He’s on the next tier below in my opinion.

absolutely not, but that's because of his injury history...not his play.

His play is deserving of getting another contract.

Unfortunately, his head injuries are too much of a risk.

he no longer has Carr throwing him hospital balls so he should have a little bit better career.

He's a star reciever. Can he stay healthy enough to finish a season.

Not enough info to say. Of course he’s not on reset market #1 money like JJ ($35/yr) Chase ($40) & JSN ($42) received, but there are also a number of #1 receivers in the 20s. He’ll, top 10 money puts him at $29 w McLauren, top 15 has him at $27 w Pickens (and $1M less than Higgens).

Are you suggesting he isn’t worth being in this grouping?

What we can get at 30 mil in two years is less than now. He knows our system and our QB likes him very much. How important to CKM is of course the only answer lol

He is a high end #2 but you still have to pay him unless someone emerges that can replace his production.

My opinion of Olave has improved…..but some of my reservations are absolutely because of his play.

1 he gets no YAC
2 he can’t make contested catches

And then there are the injuries that you referenced

too brittle. Blood clots on top of concussions. No YAK.

i pulled this off pro football reference advanced stats

this is his reception numbers, yardage, yards after catch and even put in the amount of drops he's had.

I don't know how this stacks up with other WR's but don't feel like taking the time to compare.

72rec 1,042 yards 210 YAC 7 drops
87rec 1,123 yards 347 YAC 6 drops
32rec 400 yards 121 YAC 2 drops
100rec 1,163 yards 289 YAC 5 drops

According to Fox Sports stats from the 2025 season, he was
6th in targets
7th in receptions
8th in receiving yards
9th in receiving touchdowns (tied)
10th in receiving yards/game
In the entire NFL.
He may not deserve top 3 WR money, but the man can still play and should be paid top 10 money.

Edit: according to a quick unconfirmed google AI search, Olave had 588 yards receiving in 8 games with Rattler, vs 660 yards in 9 games with Shough

Great route runner but gives you zero in YAC.

Our cap situation is so good right now we can easily pay him 35 mil a year with a front loaded contract and still have plenty of space in 2027. Even if it's a mistake, it won't set us back. Riskier to let him go.

Injuries plus talk of him almost retiring is a hard pass for me. But if you’re not planning to I think a surefire stud wr at #8 is the play. I think lemon or Tyson would step on the team and be better than Olave from day 1 but that’s just my hot take and I could be wrong.

Too many drops and alligator arms and collapsing after catching it when he does catch it to be a number one

He’s just way too weak and hasn’t gained any play strength since turning pro. Runs crisp routes and has really good hands but he’s one good hit from disaster. I want my #1 6’2”+ 200+ that can win 50/50 balls and take them away from corners. I see Olave as a more talented Lance Moore but we still need our Marques Colston to make the offense take another step up. I would give Olave $25 million for 4 years, no more. If that isn’t agreeable then we trade him for draft assets and restart the rookie time clock by drafting a replacement. Just because we finally are in a better cap situation doesn’t mean we should spend it recklessly. That’s how the good teams stay that way. The last injury prone Ohio State WR we gave a big deal to didn’t exactly work out for us. I see receiver as an easier position to find talent than on the lines or QB.
