HAMMOND — A 13-year-old is in custody this morning after an incident at the Tangipahoa Alternative School where he allegedly fired shots and left an adult critically injured.
Around 7:39 a.m., a Hammond Police school resource officer and Hammond Police lieutenant responded to an incident where a 13-year-old male student was refusing to get out of a vehicle and go to school. After speaking with police, the adult who was with the student, decided to take the teen back to his home.
As the vehicle began to leave, the school resource officer heard what sounded like gunshots, according to Hammond Police. That’s when the officer saw the juvenile approaching him with a gun.
The juvenile was taken in for questioning.
The adult, who was with the 13-year-old, was injured and transported to North Oaks Medical Center. He is currently listed in critical condition.

Update: it was his dad driving him to school

HAMMOND — A 13-year-old boy who refused to get out of his father's car at the Tangipahoa Alternative Programs campus Tuesday was detained by police after he shot his dad and approached a school resource officer with a handgun, Hammond officials said.
The school was shut down after the incident, which occurred as students were arriving at the Crystal Street campus. Following the shooting, the car sped forward and hit a nearby home, which was occupied. Police said no one was injured when the car entered the house's living room. A younger child, around 5 or 6 years old, was in the back seat of the car and was not hurt.
Police had said they were notified by the school that the boy refused to exit the vehicle as it reached the end of the carpool line. After a conversation with a school worker, the father decided to take the child home, police said. The school resource officer said he heard what sounded like a gunshot and saw the teen approaching the school with a gun.
The father was hospitalized. Initially, he was said to have critical injuries, but at a midday news conference, police said he was in stable condition.
Bergeron said the teen was taken to the Florida Parishes Juvenile Center.
“This type of violence is senseless and outrageous and sadly underscores why school resource officers are so important," Hammond Chief of Police Edwin Bergeron Jr. said. "We are incredibly grateful that we had an SRO at the school to intervene and prevent further injuries."

He's 13. He'll be back to doing hood rat shite in no time.
I'm wondering where the gun came from.
There's that "community" word again

Hammond is an odd place. I can go weeks without seeing or dealing with any of the local hood trash, or honestly any trash at all. Downtown especially you never see it…ever. Even at Hammond square (during the day) it’s pleasant and civilized. There are areas of Hammond where the white people socialize and conduct commerce that are exponentially more civilized than Baton Rouge for example. There just isn’t much overlap with the hood.
And then you go to Walmart…

If you know where this school is located in Hammond you can almost guarantee the race.

Wonderful. Another democrat foot soldier that will be released to terrorize us until someone kills him. What sucks is that you just know he won't get any jail time due to age, and this is just the beginning of his life of violent crime.

Parents should serve twice the kids sentence.
