What confuses me is that none of these portal players had red flags

Usually when a portal player (in any sport) doesn’t work out, you can go back and see that their previous schools had mixed feelings on them or their stats had some blemishes

These portal players

1) were regarded as huge losses by previous fanbase
2) had really good stats

There were no red flags.

Yorke and Simpson put up big numbers against lower level pitching.

After reading this you've left me no choice but to assume you know nothing about how the portal works today. We don't get anyone who "didn't work out" as you've said. In today's college sport kids aren't leaving in these numbers because they failed. Most cases are transferring up. And since WE are the highest level, most are trying to get here. This is a simple case of missing on talent.

Caraway had a really good postseason, but just average regular season.

They all had their risks.

Simpson and Yorke played at small schools. High Point especially. Neither got drafted

Carraway was a high ceiling pick

Dardar is the biggest surprise because he was pretty good in a competitive conference.

I still feel like there is a world where we turn things on and get hot but there was no Tommy White in this group

The biggest disappointment is how bad they’ve been defensively

The 2024 season the portal players didn’t start playing great ball until the SEC Tournament. Perhaps these 2026 jabronies will finally turn it on as well. But it needs to happen sooner because our rpi is absolutely atrocious this time around. This club will need 14 maybe even 15 sec wins going into the sec tournament, whereas that ‘24 club only needed 13.

It's a simple case of missing on a bunch of talent across the board, which is why I wish we had more information on who is scouting these players other than Jay. I'm sure he's not doing it on his own, but the number of missed evals that are currently on the roster is alarming.
