I was repeatedly told by Democrats that immigrants can’t get welfare.

Democrats lie, not a lot lie, but always lie.

Whatever a Democrat “tells you”, assume the opposite.

You know there’s a difference between immigrants and illegal immigrants right?

So which does the Chicago Tribune mean? I assumed they meant illegal immigrants, but I could be wrong.

No there isn’t. The left keeps changing the definition and playing around with words. Same as they did with “climate change”. 20 years ago they said “illegal aliens”, now you can’t say “aliens” so you have to say “immigrants”. Now illegal is bad so now they just refer to them as immigrants. They’re all still the same thing and shouldn’t be here.

In the eyes of a Democrat or a rational person?

There is but the media will always lead you to believe these are the legal variety. I'd be willing to bet the illegals are in the 97%+ of all immigrants.

When you apply to immigrate to the US you have to go through great lengths to prove you won’t be a public burden. What happened to these wankers?

Honestly for Illinois 16k seems low.

What are you saying? That invaders with bogus asylum claims who were “paroled” into the country by the clown Biden administration should be entitled to benefits?

because they're talking about legal immigrants

They'll tell you they meant welfare from federal programs, and of course they knew these people were receiving state funds (which is funded from the federal government).
Because there's a huge difference and that difference matters... to them, it does. For some reason.

They mentioned refugees, asylum seekers, and human trafficking victims. If they're here legally does it even make any difference to you anyway though?

That just Illinois and the ones getting possibly released. There is a million more there
Posted on 4/12/26 at 4:28 pm to AFtiger75
There’s immigrants and there is illegal aliens. Illegal immigrants is a bit different as that’s ones that have lost their citizenship and hiding. That’s not that big of a problem, yet

Gaming a rigged system doesn’t make you a legal immigrant.

The poster seemed to imply the 16,000 in Illinois weren't here illegally, which is why I asked my question.
But to answer yours; not really. I think all forms of public assistance should be reserved for US citizens. Otherwise you provide incentives for people to cross the border illegally and then manufacture an excuse to remain and consume US govt resources.
