This question was just asked by Stephan Molyneux on X and it's a great question.

Interested in the board's answers.

All of them have a good case to be made, but I think it's "envy". So much of what drives society is the want to be someone else or to have what someone else has.

Why is it greed? I can see how greed and envy have a lot of overlap.

I'm greedy. Who doesn't like earning more money? But, for me to earn more money, I have to take care of more customers. Greed can be a massive benefit to society. Yes, I'm going all Gordon Gecko in here.

Pride.

Generally fuels all the others in my opinion. The human ego is a hellacious motivator. Look what the serpent did with it in the garden

No, which one most characterizes the modern world, and why?

It wasn't asking which one is "most deadly".

I'm trying to point out that there is no list of "deadly" sins.

The wages of sin is death.

Rebellion against God, because it causes rampant practice of all the others and it is widespread.

Greed has made the world go round and led to innovation, advancement, capitalism, basically everything that makes the American economy exist and the strongest in the world. It's the core of all advancements we've made in technology especially.

It most characterizes the modern world in a positive way.

If you were asking about negative characterization, it's envy by far.

Envy. The Democratic Party has imprisoned so many with it.

A Party of Billionaires has convinced a huge majority of people that they are only poor because someone else is rich.

AND, only the Democratic Party can fix that for them. Wealth redistribution. It's their carrot out in front of the jackass (public)

Envy is the basis of leftist ideology, so naturally I'm going to go with that.

The modern world loves framing envy as, "justice, fairness, equity, etc." This is meant to position the leftist as an egalitarian. They just want the world to be "fair" - after all.

Negative. They want to normalize theft and lower standards to appease the, "less fortunate." The truth is their intentions are evil. They do not want fairness. They want power.

To what end? Control. Every aspect of your life must be within their control. Why? How else will they be able to throttle the haves and elevate the have nots? Control of the language. Control of history. Control over the future.

All because their ideology is rooted in envy.

Pride. Why?
It was pride that clouded satans' mind. As a result of his delusion, he began to consider himself superior to God himself.
Finally he was cast out of heaven for his insolent (and stupid) pride
Why satan was so proud of himself - is well known story.

I think its sloth. If Good men stood up and actually did something to change it. It would make a world of difference. We just want to keep our heads down, live our lives and mind our own business. But yes Greed, envy, and hate is destroying the world.
