Back the Blue: Why do cops use unmarked cars to enforce speed limits?

Or, hide their marked cars behind signs, buildings, and shrubs to run radar / laser and pull people over?
Speeds limits are supposedly there to keep us safe. Wouldn’t more people slow down and everyone ‘be safer’ if more drivers saw the police cars enforcing the speed limit?

around here, they don't . that said, with the lower profile light bars, it's harder to discern if they are cop cars from a distance.

Realistically, folks who are speeding at a high enough level that they actually should be pulled over aren't going to have the time to really slow down before they see a cop (at least not on major roadways/expressways).
OP has a valid point though. If it was truly about keeping people from speeding, they would be more visible and people would make note of that/slow down.

Part of it is revenue generation I’m sure, especially in those random small town speed traps, and part of it is probably the idea of knowing they’re around but not being able to see them makes you have to drive more cautiously

Sure they would, but the rule makers want you to not speed the rest of your drive as well. Slowing down for that one moment doesn't resolve all the other moments you are on the road.

Speed traps are such a pet peeve of mine. Interestingly, they are usually done in the morning, in decent areas, where the working man/woman are just trying to get to their shift. Same for DUI checkpoints and the like.
They say this is for safety. Ironically, the more dangerous a road is, the safer it becomes. This is why roundabouts are so effective and why the Autobahn is so safe. Because of their inherent danger you have to pay attention. You actually have to drive. This has been proven.
Speed traps are little more than another hidden tax on the working man. Kinda funny how you never see speed traps in the hood. Same for DUI checkpoints. Where is the safety concern for that group, I wonder?

Agree. They'll set up seatbelt/inspection sticker checkpoints in Pineville around the time that all the working people are on the way to work. Set them up for the non-workers.

I would say that sometimes going with the flow of traffic is more safe than arbitrarily going the speed limit. Now I’m not talking about excessive speeds but reasonable speeds above the speed limit.

There's better things to complain about when it come to LEO traffic div.
Like, why to they routinely speed and run stop lights/signs in the course of normal non emergency duty, yet issue J. Q. Public tickets for all the above mentioned.

The culture most present in the OT is no different than other cultures the OT loves to hate on. They justify the laws they break because it's ok and infringes upon their rights. There are levels, but knowingly breaking the law and justifying it is the same mindset that the OT loves to hate.
