Also, an article from Variety

Inside the ‘Michael’ Overhaul: $15 Million Reshoots, Removing Child Abuse Allegations and What’s in Store for Sequels
quote:
“Michael,” the story of Michael Jackson’s rise to superstardom, was supposed to begin in medias res with one of the darkest chapters of the singer’s life. In one scene from the film’s original script, the King of Pop stares at his reflection in the mirror, capturing his sorrowful gaze as police car lights flash behind him. It’s 1993, a decade after “Thriller” gripped the culture, and Jackson has just been accused of child molestation.
But the sequence with investigators who arrive at Neverland Ranch to search for evidence is one of many that were left on the cutting room floor. “Michael,” which Lionsgate will release in the United States on April 24, was supposed to explore the impact of the allegations on Jackson’s life, with much of its third act devoted to the scandal. But that finale was scrapped, along with any mention of the child molestation accusations, according to sources with knowledge of the production. That’s after attorneys for the Jackson estate, which served as a producer, realized there was a clause in a settlement with one of the singer’s accusers, Jordan Chandler, that barred the depiction or mention of him in any movie.

I read it has to make $700m to get the sequel. That’s aiming extremely high for a Predator movie. Badlands only made $185m.

Was at dinner with some of my black friends last week and four of them ordered costumes and are dressing up when they go see this. I said I'm going to go as 2000's Michael when he turned Caucasian and had Neverland
That or bring a baby doll and pretend I'm hanging it over a balcony.

Been getting commercials for this every break when I'm watching Daredevil. It looks like it's gonna suck.

I think not addressing the allegations is a poor choice. He was acquitted on all charges and they could have used this to address how the media handled all of that.
Was he weird? Absolutely. Did he chop up his face? yes although not nearly as bad as some celebrities today.
He was also right there with The Beatles and Elvis in terms of music.
And BTW. When Elvis and Precilla started dating she was 14 and he was 24.

Walk Hard made it difficult to take music biopics seriously. I rewatched Ray the other day and couldn’t stop thinking about how well walk hard parodied every element of it.

Man, so we can judge people from the 1700's on their actions, today, but not someone who's actions were well documented in recent history?

Reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody (the film, not the song).
It makes me wonder how much they'll go over his personal life, how much his dad screwed him up, and what all we know about his mental breakdowns.
I imagine they'd steer clear of anything not proven as to avoid getting sued into oblivion by his estate.
It looks... okay? It's a musical biopic. As a kid I remember his music as a constant on the radio (I even think my first cassette was one of his). I imagine those of us who grew up listening to his music are the target audience, but we're also the ones that saw him go from musical megastar to completely unhinged.

quote:This movie is being made with his estate. So don't expect to see anything that makes Michael look bad. I, for one, think he was a total weirdo with a Peter Pan complex, but don't buy the molestation allegations which came off as money/attention grabs. Way too many other kids like Corey Feldman (who has accused others in Hollywood) defended him.
