With that said, I don’t see any need to land on the moon

Would be cool to see those pictures.

It feels like my radiation levels spike every time I think about them going out that far.

You do it because we can. It's that simple.

They need to test out the lander before than can shoot for Mars

Gotta land on it first before you build a base.

Why not?
As John F. Kennedy said in his speech at Rice University, "But why some say the moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask, why climb the highest mountain?"
Is there no sense of exploration anymore? No sense of excitement? No sense of accomplishment?
Why not go to the Moon, or Mars, or all of the way to the moons of Jupiter? Do you want to be stuck on this planet forever?
Don't give me that "the money could be spent better solving problems on Earth" bullshite. How many trillions upon trillions have we spent on that, and where has it got us? Besides, the space budget is a spit in a rainstorm overall.

Did they get pics of all the equipment and flag etc, that we left up there?
Please share if so. Would love to see

First time I've said BRB using imagination outside of a babe thread.

Next time you pray to God, thank him for putting the atmosphere around our planet. Imagine if earth were getting pounded by all the meteorites that have hit the moon throughout time. Some of those craters are as big as cities.

article in "The Guardian" ( I know, I know) asking a British Astro physicist or whatever, if there was anything to gain by this mission. Not really. Mostly a sightseeing tour. there have been other flybys on the darkside. plenty of pictures and data about the moon already in hand. BUT, it is a neat engineering feat to do it. that was his take. (paraphrasing, of course)

No, Artemis II did not get images of the Apollo landing sites because their closest approach to the lunar surface was a little over 4,000 miles, on the opposite side of the Moon from the sites. Even if they were on the correct side of the Moon, the cameras they had would not have been able to photograph the sites from that distance.
However, here are some images of the Apollo landing sites taken by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The sites have also been photographed by the Japanese SELENE spacecraft, India's Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft, and South Korea's Danuri spacecraft. Even China has stated that they had images of the Apollo sites from their Chang'e 2 spacecraft, but have not released them.
