I made my quarterly moves on Monday so I hope we get a breather. Onward and upward.

Iran's military and navy are effectively destroyed. And the Strait is opening for these 2 weeks. In what world is that a "surrender"?

I suspect it will play out like tariffs, and the administration will just tweak, reset, and repeat.

Region: as unstable as ever requiring a greater US commitment.
I don't see how that's possibly true. The main de-stabilizing agent was Iran - and their ability to project power has been diminished. This is silly claiming they have an infinite ability to use missiles.

ETA: this guy is a deep state lifer...worked in state under Biden and Obama.

Here was a piece he wrote in 2020 when Trump assassinated Soleimani:

LINK

quote:

Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force, was one of the most influential and popular figures in the Islamic Republic and a particular nemesis of the United States. He led Iran’s campaign to arm and train Shiite militias in Iraq—militias responsible for the deaths of an estimated 600 American troops from 2003 to 2011— and became the chief purveyor of Iranian political influence in Iraq thereafter, most notably through his efforts to fight the Islamic State (ISIS). He drove Iran’s policies to arm and support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, including by deploying an estimated 50,000 Shiite militia fighters to Syria. He was the point man for Iran’s relationship with Hezbollah in Lebanon, helping to supply the group with missiles and rockets to threaten Israel. He drove Iran’s strategy to arm the Houthis in Yemen. For all these reasons and more, Soleimani was a cult hero in Iran and across the region.

In short, the United States has taken a highly escalatory step in assassinating one of the most important and powerful men in the Middle East.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump argues that Soleimani was a terrorist and that assassinating him was a defensive action that stopped an imminent attack. Both of those assertions may or may not be true, but the United States would never have felt compelled to act against the Iranian general if not for the reckless policy the administration has pursued since it came into office. In May 2018, Trump left the Iran nuclear agreement and adopted a “maximum pressure” policy of economic sanctions on Iran. For a year, Iran responded with restraint in an effort to isolate the United States diplomatically and win economic concessions from other parties to the nuclear agreement.

Run of the mill "lets give Iran billions on end" a-hole.

Watch CF.

Not a bad stonk to get stuck with, but they dropped every time the Iran situation looked calm and jumped whenever it flared up again.

I made a few bucks swing trading this past month.

If trump capitulates to that 10 point Iranian plan, then yes its a complete surrender, but, why don't we wait and see instead of being massive drama queens?

I disagree with that guy’s post on the region. In my opinion, this whole thing has only made other people in the region mad at Iran.

Tanking bigly this morning.

Debating whether to buy and put in a limit order. It'll spike if Iran flares up again.

Added this morning along with DBA and USO. There is no way Iran gives up everything Israel wants and Israel will not let Khamenei/IRGC maintain control in Iran.

There will likely be a US effort to maintain a negotiated peace until after the mditerms, but I don't think Israel cares.

Hasn't earnings been good so far this year? Jobs report was better than expected even though I don't trust that. Assuming th war hadn't happened would the market be up on the year?

If the peace holds are we in for a booming quarter/year?

It is a weird market for sure. Everything drops on warranted concerns such as inflation , war , some Ai. concerns etc... But any decent good news and we are off to the races. If you sell anything on any concerns above your probably going to watch what you sold fly right past where you sold on any hint of good news.
