they crossed the Van Allen radiation belts last night and are goners.
Tough for them, but everybody knows humans can't survive it.
NASA went back knowing they could fake the rest of the mission using AI, so they could make billions on the program.

I know youre joking but radiation from cosmic rays and solar winds will be an issue for any long term colonization of Mars which has no effective magnetosphere

See that experience might have seemed obvious and real to you, but just give it 30 years and there will be youtube videos with all the pauses edited out and big cartoon bold letters flying across screen that explain why it was impossible you know what you saw, and it was all a deep state dupe, and there will be millions of enlightened morons sharing it to their friends.
