Former female NFL ref who was fired for bad performance sues league for discrimination

NEW YORK -- In a new lawsuit, one of the first three women to officiate an NFL game describes her three years at the pinnacle of her profession as a descent into the grip of a sexist institution unable to treat a woman as an equal.
Robin DeLorenzo cited gender-based scrutiny, humiliation and open hostility among the indignities she suffered from 2022 to 2025 as a league official.
The lawsuit in Manhattan federal court, filed Friday, sought reinstatement along with unspecified damages.
Brian McCarthy, an NFL spokesperson, said in an email that DeLorenzo was terminated after three seasons of documented underperformance.
"The allegations in this lawsuit are baseless, and we will vigorously defend against them in court," he said.
A message seeking comment from the NFL Referees Association was not immediately returned.

The NFL I know will bury her in court because before they fired her they had their ducks in order, evidence lined up to the point the judge will probably be open to a countersuit.

Wow who could have predicted this happening

Has any other ref been fired for under performance?
They all should be fired.
They all should be fired.

She was involved in 3 of those weird Chiefs games in 2024 where they magically won and had some calls gifted to them.
What a clown she is.
What a clown she is.

I'm sure this will help in the ongoing strife between the NFL & the officials union
Do y'all realize there's a very good chance the 2026 season starts with replacement officials?

Such a great idea to install women in places they don't belong........
.....funny how instead of being appreciative or grateful for the opportunity, its a lawsuit instead. Im so happy to see this........
That is what you get for pandering like a cuck bitch to the idea that "women can do anything a man can do".
Pander to the matriarchy and the feminist LBGTQ+, silent P, 2 spirit fricking loser brigade, and you get fricked over.
Let this be a lesson.

It's amusing that one of her complaints was that her referee raised his voice to her and was dismissive.
The remarkable thing is that that apparently never happened previously in all the games she needed to work to get to the NFL.
I was glad to see what she said about the pony tail since it confirms what I thought when the first time Sarah Thomas ever did so was in the Super Bowl and has been doing so since.

The union can’t really do anything regarding terminations if the right processes leading to it are followed. If the league treated her differently it would almost have certainly been on the side of giving her extra rope. They were far more motivated to not have to make that decision
And while refs at all levels can have that weird fraternity thing going, she was only around for 3 years. She’s not Angel Hernandez who could get by being garbage because every ump loved him. She’s an outsider, (documented) bad at her job, and a hill not worth dying on

The lawsuit, though, suggested that the magic quickly ended when the longtime New Jersey resident reported for duty after being sent man-sized clothing to wear
quote:Or because it looks far more professional vs having it look stupid bunched up in a hat. And the frame under 5'6" with tits makes it clear there's a woman
and being told to let her ponytail show out of the hole in the back of her hat, apparently to make clear a woman was on the field
quote:This could just be horrible AP writing as usual but it doesn't even state she was told to sing by her boss. Just that another ref said it to Tomlin, which is objectively a funny notion. But only as a notion. A "ha ha, real funny"
The lawsuit asserted that an NFL officials crew chief told then-Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin one day during training camp that she should be made to sing in front of everyone, like rookie football players, because she was a new official.
quote:If she did this and didn't want to, what more appropriate grounds for spot termination? Conviction and decisiveness are integral to the fricking job. Who in their right mind would respect her after that?
As a result, she said, she "put on an utterly humiliating singing performance" in front of the Steelers' players, all the men on her officiating crew and her boss, who she said had promised not to record her but did so anyway, according to the lawsuit.
I don't know if these are the first 3 complaints in the actual suit but if these are the juiciest the AP could put in the story, good luck to her. I'm sure she's paying her lawyers on contingency but someone should probably let her know she's on the hook for defendant fees if a suit is deemed frivolous

Moral of the story and nobody ever learns...keep women out of men''s spaces.
Remember Heather Sue Mercer, that Duke soccer kicker who was let on the team as some favor? First thing she did when she was later cut was sue the School for gender-discrimination.

Good thing you aren't the NFL's lawyer. You are just making shite up.

She has a good case. All she has to do is point to the ref that fricked up the saints rams call getting promoted.

NFL officiating is a joke. Remember when officiating got bad and they brought in the replacements? The replacements were even worse. Had fans begging to bring back the same shitty officials as before. The NFL knows exactly what it's doing. This isn't incompetence anymore. It's deliberately fricking the game and nothing anyone can do about it.
This dyke was fired because of something she did off the field. It definitely wasn't her in game performance that got her fired. She pissed off the wrong person.

they will give her some scratch to go away, if a judge doesnt throw the suit out. they know she will make all kinds of claims about the players/coaches/league/officials being mean to her, etc. It's not worth the BS that media will spin it, if it goes to court.
A Female being treated poorly by Meanie, NFL. Media will eat it up.
