Crater Lake/Redwood NP

We will be in Eugene, Oregon this summer for an event and are trying to decide if we should add on either the Olympic Peninsula or drive down to Crater Lake/Redwood NP. We loved the Olympic Peninsula when we went 8 years ago and our kids were really small. The attraction there is we know it's awesome and our kids would be able to do a lot more now.
None of us have been to Crater Lake/Redwood so that's a big draw for me to do something new but are these places worth driving to and, if so, how long do you need to stay at each one to get a decent experience? Personally, I lean to experiencing something new but I can tell my wife wants to go back to Olympic. I don't want to push against her for something and then have it be average or relatively lame for obvious reasons lol. Can anybody talk me (us) into these two parks?

Thrive Oregon coast id gorgeous, and Bend is pretty damn cool, as well.

Those are normal winter closings. The Rim Road closes for winter and only the southern Main entrance is open. That closes when storms hit until the road can be plowed.
OP: How much time do you have? Redwood is spread out along the coast. There are a variety of trails, several that go along the coast. You can see most of Crater Lake in a day. Just depends on how much hiking you want to do. As someone mentioned, Bend is well worth a visit too.

I think the trail down to the lake at crater is supposed to be closed for a year or two. we did both last summer. Crater is cool, but really only for a day or so. I would recommend spending a few days on the oregon coast, hit astoria and then drive up to Olympic. how much time wil you have ?

One drive is much further than the other.

Took my neice and nephew to Redwoods when they were about 8 and 5.
They love climbing through the ferns, over logs, and chasing down banana slugs.
Elk can be found as well. Trinidad lighthouse and hike down to the beach could be on the way for you as well.

Do you have to fly back out of Eugene?
Could do Eugene-Crater Laker-Bend/Newberry Crater-Eugene and have a pretty damn awesome trip

All these places are great and no clue what you should do but I want to point out that Crater Lake and Redwoods National Parks are a decent distance away from one another, like 4–5-hour drive. They aren't so close that you might as well do both since you are in the area.
Crater Lake literally took my breath away the first time I saw it. You could spend a week just touring Oregon, it is a beautiful place with perhaps the dumbest people in the country living there.

Planning on being there 9 or 10 days total, only necessity is being in Eugene on June 22. My preference would be to drive down the Oregon/nor cal coast and fly back home from San Fran but it was an extra 2k to drop the car off at a different airport

I would do an Oregon loop unless you're flying in and out of Seattle in which case do Olympic.
Jebediah Smith State Park is one of the best spots for Redwoods and it's not far from the Oregon border. You don't have to go all the way down the NorCal coast to see good groves. The Southern Oregon Coast is nice too - especially along the Samual Beardman section.
When you're near Eugene, you can make a trip to Silver Falls State Park which has some pretty cool waterfalls.
