US requires gas and diesel contain more biofuels made from crops

Farmers and processors are poised to benefit from rules requiring more biofuels for use at the nation’s gas stations and truckstops.
President Trump on Friday released long-awaited quotas that dictate how much biofuel made from crops must be blended into the gasoline and diesel supply. The new rule increases biomass-based diesel—which is partly derived from soybeans—blending by more than 60%, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. It raises the biofuel requirement for all fuel by a lower percentage.
The regulatory requirement for U.S. refiners to blend billions of gallons of biofuel into fuel is closely watched by corn and soybean farmers.

ADM Chief Executive Juan Luciano said earlier this year that U.S. policy that enabled increased renewable diesel blending would help the company’s profits in 2026.
At an event at the White House surrounded by farmers, ranchers and a gold-colored tractor, Trump said the higher renewable diesel- and gas- blending amounts would help bolster the U.S. fuel supply, while generating $10 billion for rural economies.
“It will come right out of the farms,” he said. “You voted for me. I will never forget that.”

Is this going to make trying to find ethanol free gas for my lawn equipment and outboard even more of an Easter egg hunt?

WTF
There is nothing good for this outside of handouts for farmers. This cuts down on fuel efficiency significantly

You ever wonder how things might be different if the Iowa caucuses weren't near the front of the U.S. presidential primary campaigns?
I do.
I do.

I do.
I'm sure that's always been part of the equation.

We shouldn’t be using corn or soybeans for ethanol production (outside of corn whiskey).
If we use any crop we should be using sugar from sugar cane to make ethanol.
This is welfare for corporate farm conglomerates.

Its galactically stupid. Not what I voted for.

They finally figured out how to apply shrinkflation at the gas pump.
Less MPG for the same or slightly higher price.

There is not enough attention given to the stupidity of farming crops for fuel.
It's a massively energy negative process, and nothing other than an attempt to keep crop prices high with massive over-production of corn and soy.
It's infuriating. We put more far more energy into its production than we get out of it. I'm sure it would be far cheaper to just pay the farmers to not plant anything vs paying for this veiled feel good bullshite of burning less fossil fuels.
I understand the difficulties associated with farming, keeping farmers solvent, how important that is, blah blah blah. I get it. Come up with something other than planting and harvesting the shite just to dilute fuel with it. What we are doing now is fricking stupid and doubling down on it is stupider.

fricking idiocy. As I’ve mentioned before, people gnash their teeth over land “wasted” on solar farms when the current estimates on the amount of land it would take to bring the US completely solar would be roughly 15MM acres…
… and we currently use 30MM acres of land to grow corn for ethanol. And yet no one bats a fricking eye. Utter insanity.

Trump 2.0 is one of the most disappointing presidencies in a long time. He's single handily giving mid terms to the democrats. Get a real conservative in the dang White House for once

Press release from the EPA's official website:
LINK
quote:
“President Trump promised a Golden Age of American agriculture. Once again, his administration is delivering. Overall, ‘Set 2’ creates a larger, more stable, and more reliable domestic market for U.S. crops, strengthening farm income and rural economies,” said EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. “For 20 years, this program has diversified our nation’s energy supply and advanced American energy independence. EPA is proud to deliver on this mission and to do so at historic levels.”
“Today’s announcement is truly historic for our nation’s farmers and energy producers. These numbers represent the highest levels of biofuels ever required to be blended into our fuel supply,” said U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins. “With President Trump and Administrator Zeldin’s leadership, these historically high volumes are expected to create a $3 to $4 billion dollar increase in net farm income. The Renewable Fuel Standard Set 2 Rule will create a $31 billion dollar value for American corn and soybean oil for biofuel production in 2026, which is $2 billion more than in 2025. Our farmers are stepping up to grow American energy dominance.”
Under Administrator Zeldin’s leadership, the agency has been working tirelessly to further America’s energy independence and future, and these new requirements are another major step in that direction.
To meet the historic 2026 and 2027 volume levels, EPA estimates that biodiesel and renewable diesel production and use will need to increase by over 60 percent compared to 2025 volumes, the last year of the Biden-Harris administration’s “Set 1”. This in particular will drive renewed demand for American soybean producers. With the benefits “Set 2” will bring to America’s farmers, EPA estimates that the rule will generate over $10 billion for rural economies and create over 100,000 new jobs in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors. To provide continued certainty for American corn growers and ethanol producers, EPA will maintain the 15 billion conventional biofuel level for 2026 and 2027.

I did NOT vote for this!

100% this is due to the tariffs killing sales of saw beans to China

This is not at all what I voted for

More typical politics at the expense of the American consumer…
