Sheerin needs to start. Put long guys in long opportunities and short guys in the back

of the rotation.

Make it happen.

Sheerin is the Friday night guy. Maybe Schmidt, but Sheerin has the stuff and the makeup.

He’s hard to hit and throws strikes. He’s going to see a lot of action regardless of when he enters.

Will be nice to see him get more extended outings.

He’s got an easy delivery and Friday night stuff. Would love to see him open the game instead of always coming in in pressure situations.

Not sure who the Sunday guy will be next weekend but I do know its not going to Guidry. Dude is at his best coming out of the bullpen.

That’s not how Jay thinks
He considers the end of games just as important

The only argument you can make is you were down 7-0 without Sheerin seeing the mound on a crucial weekend series

Agreed.

Schmidt -Friday- because he is consistently on, and I think you can count on him going 5+ and setting up the weekend.

Sheerin- Saturday- until Moore is back, when Moore comes back, give him his spot on Saturday most likely.

Evans Sunday- when Evans is on, he is absolutely amazing. When his control isn’t good, he is a walk machine. Starting him on Friday, if he is bad, you don’t want to pull him early and be short on arms come Sunday. But if you start him Sunday, you know who is available and you can give Evans the early hook, if he ain’t got it that day.

Evans had one of his worst starts of the season Friday. Gave up like 7 free passes. And still gave us 6 innings of 4-run ball. And you want to move Sheerin in his place as the Friday night guy?

Evans—Friday
Schmidt—Saturday
Figure it out—Sunday

I think Jay would love to have Evans and/or Schmidt to give us 7 good innings, so we could save Cowan to start on Sunday. But he will 100% use him Friday or Saturday if he has to.

I do like Sheerin and think he’s gotten hosed most of the year by never getting to start a clean inning. I think he can get 9-12 outs if he gets to start a clean inning. And he may be a great starter. But nothing he’s done so far points to that. Granted, he hasn’t gotten a chance. But has he thrown more than 60 pitches? He’s just as valuable in the 5th, 6th, 7th, or 7th, 8th, 9th than the 1st-3rd.

I like Sheerin but don't think he's a starter. He needs to play the same role a Shores last season. He needs more CLEAN innings to start instead of coming in with guys on base.

The main reason I think he's a reliever/ stopper is that he mainly has 2 pitches. Starters needs at least a 3 pitch mix and almost always use a curve over a slider. 2 pitches only gets you through the lineup once IMO.

His stuff is good enough to see the lineup twice and the back half maybe 3 times as long as he doesn't walk down line up guys for the top half to bring home.

He hasn’t gone farther than 2.1 or thrown over 60 pitches

what makes you think he’s a long guy?

Evans has shown he can do it, he just hasn’t shown he can do it consistently.

I think Cowan is much better out of the pen. He seems to do better when he comes behind a very high velocity dealer like Sheerin. His stuff is not overwhelming so it throws hitters off. Same with Guidry. I don't think either of those should be starting, imo. It's totally different asking Cowan to come in to start when the team has time to prep for that and not seeing anyone else throwing higher velocity before him. Guidry is a 1-2 inning guy for you with the possibility of longer outing if he's really dealing and they struggling to pick him up.

I wouldn't mind seeing them give Sheerin a shot but his stuff is very high effort. I think there's a reason he hasn't thrown past 60 pitches.

Needs to stay in the bullpen. One of our top 3-4 arms, and need to have one of them available in high pressure situations.

I don’t foresee Jay putting Sheerin in starting role. His role as a premier bullpen arm in high-leverage situations is just as important to the team’s success as whoever is starting over weekends. His approach is high-intensity which fits bullpen role. His entire mental and physical approach would have to be dialed back if converted to starter in middle of season.
