How many of you with dogs refer to yourself as their daddy or momma?

When my MIL talks to my dog and references me to her, she says “your daddy” or my wife as “your momma”. I like my dog, but we are NOT her parents and I cringe when my MIL says that. We have three adult kids and I don’t view having a dog as equal to having kids. It’s just weird to me.

Only one person on this world calls me daddy and that person is my sugar baby.

not unusual at all particularly in people that have grown children that have moved away from home

parenting dogs is much easier than children...and less messy cleanups

I called my vet once and and identified myself as “Missy’s daddy”. Pretty sure I heard chuckling on the other end of the phone.

Depends on the dog and the dog's age.

No. God no. I love these dogs more than some people, but they’re fricking dogs. I OWN them. They’re not human and certainly not children. Just a living soul for which I’m responsible.

Sally imprinted on my husband... that's her mama... I constantly refer to him as her mama. Makes me laugh.

Dogs are like forever toddlers... I have no beef with people who "mama" their dogs. It's a damn sight better than the Michael Vicks or dog eaters of this world.

Strange that makes you cringe. It’s not that serious?

I don't refer to myself as their momma or daddy.

I would rather spend a quiet day at home with 2 or 3 dogs ANYDAY over spending the day with 2 or 3 people.

My dogs are a part of our family. Both of my dogs look up to me like im their father. My shepard is literally smarter than alot of humans. The amount of love, loyalty and companionship they shower their families with everyday is un matched. We dont deserve them. I get that everyone is different when it comes to different things but I can formally say anyone here being negative about dogs here on TD is a big no no.

My dog has a great life and we enjoy her company. In fact we got her from the pound when she was about to be put to sleep. I just think it is overboard to refer to her as our child. It seems like a mockery to put my kids on the same level as the dog.

I get it but everyone is different. We as People, all find joy and happiness in different ways. Kudos for rescuing your pup.
