According to the sources in Vance’s orbit who gave Axios reporters Barak Ravid and Marc Caputo an earful, the VP “is ready to play his part if negotiations” with representatives of the Islamic Republic “ripen,” but he’s not at all pleased to be in that position in the first place. Indeed, Vance is reportedly viscerally frustrated with America’s ally in this war, Israel, for bamboozling the president into what he was gulled into believing would be a quick and triumphant war.

During a “difficult call” on Monday with Benjamin Netanyahu, Vance is said to have lashed out at the Israeli prime minister over what the VP’s people insist were his rosy predictions about how the war would progress. “Before the war, Bibi really sold it to the president as being easy, as regime change being a lot likelier than it was,” Axios’s “U.S. source” said. “And the VP was clear-eyed about some of those statements,” the source continued — presumably, unlike the president or his key subordinates (looking at you, Marco).

In addition, Axios’s well-placed source is fit to be tied over reporting earlier this week, which alleged that the surviving representatives of the Islamic Republic would prefer to deal with Vance over any other administration official, operating under the assumption that he is less inclined to support the war. Vance and his allies give observers that impression at every available opportunity, after all. Still, the source insists that the allegation is the result of a hostile Israeli intelligence operation targeting the vice president.

“It’s an Israeli op against JD,” said one administration official — a remark that dovetails with Vance adviser Andrew Surabian’s claim on social media that the claim is indicative of “a coordinated foreign propaganda op.”

Americans have a lot to worry about these days, but they should presumably also spare some time to fret over the vice president’s declining political stock. One source “close to Vance” wants you to know, “He has his own views” on so many things, the war apparently among them. And yet, the embattled VP “is going to work according to Trump [sic] instructions, and try and achieve an outcome that the president likes.” I guess we’re supposed to regard this as a noble and burdensome sacrifice.

National Review

An Israeli op? That's funny. Anyone who has paid attention to Vance over the last year knows this is how he feels. His people are just mad because people notice.

I blame Bush for Vance's attitude. His endless wars poisoned America and poisoned those who served over there, including Vance. Just as French and British still traumatized by WW2 allowed Hitler to have his way, so does Vance as he looks for every excuse not to fight the Houthis last year or Iran this year.

frick Bill Kristol. he is as responsible as Bush. Iran was always the enemy but those dumbasses just HAD to go to Iraq and engage in nation building in Afghanistan after the job was done.

Props to Vance for having the balls to call out who was really pulling the strings.

Netanyahu played Trump like a fiddle and he fell for it big time

I don't know what discussions were had behind closed doors as to his role, but Vance needs to simmer down and remember his place. He serves at the leisure of the president and unless he's given specific authority otherwise, his role is to operate as a ceremonial extension of exactly what the president wants.

Not what I wrote and you damn well know it ALTHOUGH they both have one thing in common: Kill Jews anywhere and everywhere every chance they get. I was talking about how the Brits and French were shell shocked for decades after the war. Gabbard, Vance, and others have a similar attitude after Bush's follies.

We saw the same thing after the Vietnam War where we paralyzed ourselves for 6 years until Reagan took over.

Interestingly, Kristol and Kagan said some things the other day that this op only benefits Israel, not the U.S. That is true TDS, this is their life's dream.

So, the question with these articles is: (1) is it BS to drive a wedge in MAGA or (2) is someone in the administration trying to protect JD if it goes south?

I forget which pod I watched, but someone made a good point (I think it was Jeremy Scahill) that Axios is a preferred target for leaks (I believe it was by Israel).

We’ve been at this 3 weeks, but the moaning and hand wringing would have you believe we’ve been at this for 5 or 6 years like the never ending Ukraine saga we happily piss away money and treasure too or the 20 year quagmire Bush left us in.

You’re indirectly comparing the threat from Iran to the threat from Nazi Germany. The two aren’t similar at all.

Who the hell knows what to believe anymore? Anyone here claiming that they know really anything for a fact has most likely had their mind made up for a while about all of this and interpret every bit of information as confirmation of whatever they already believed.

Gulled again.

These strongman types that Trump tends to be fond of sure do seem to have a knack for bamboozling Trump.

Iran is in a far stronger position now than they were a month ago. Everyone who is paying attention knows this - even Trump.
