A better answer would have been, "I don't know and I can't guess."

Savannah Guthrie broke down in tears during her first TV interview as she discussed her mom Nancy's disappearance possibly being her fault:

“[I asked my brother] do you think it’s because of me? He said, ‘Well, I’m sorry sweetie, but yeah, maybe.’ But I knew that. I hope not. I mean, we still don’t know. Honestly, we don’t know anything. So I don’t know that it’s because she’s my mom and somebody thought, ‘Oh, that lady has money, we can make a quick buck.’ I mean, that would make sense, but we don’t know... To think that I brought this to her bedside, that it’s because of me. And I just have to say, I’m so sorry, mommy. I am so sorry. I’m sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law. I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry.”

I think the brother was involved and is trying to throw some shade.

In the interview she said her brother immediately "thought" it was a kidnapping for ransom.

I saw an interview with the brother a few weeks ago, and if im not mistaken, i think he is a fighter pilot or something similar.. correct me if wrong, but i dont think those guys are exactly known for sugar-coating shite like this …… and yeah it sucks for her to hear it .

I think with things like this, intention is everything.. of course right now it’s impossible to think logically in Guthrie’s position- but logically speaking, it’s not like she was flaunting shite or ‘showing off’- im not a Today show watcher, but i read that she had her mom on for a couple of segments over the years.. just to share some recipes i think.. so it’s not like she placed her mom front and center with soemthing to gain, and asked for any of this.. it’s my belief that she would never have intentionally put any of her family members in harm’s way, so it is 100% not “on her” .. just an awful, unintentional result of her job .

I keep an arms length distance from this whole story. Children across this country are being murdered, molested, raped and abused.

I hope that elderly lady is ok and those that did this get brought to justice, but that’s an old millionaire’s issue. So much attention while people are dying in the streets doesn’t sit well with me.

You’re not the only one to express this sentiment - but to me, that’s just a lazy take .

The explanation as to the interest in this story is simple- millions and millions of people know who Savannah Guthrie is.. and by extension, they feel a little bit like they ‘know her’ to some extent .. whereas only a few people might know the 9 yr old girl who’s dad kidnapped her in Des Moines during a custody battle.. or the thousands of little boys raped over the decades by Catholic priests- some of us might know one of them, but they are not public people .. so the interest in the Guthrie story is 100% understandable and not out of line in any way .

This whole thing is annoying. Once hearing TMZ was involved I really didn’t care. From what I seen Savannah was about to be let go from her job before her mom went missing.

Are you insinuating this was an ‘inside job’ to garner publicity or somehow related to keeping her job ?

Jesus fricking Christ… People like you are the problem .

The family is the last ones to see her. The family contacted tmz and senator kelly before the authorities. Nothing has turned up. Initially she was noted missing from church but then reported she hasn’t been in months. None of the ransoms have been related to the case. Yeah im the crackpot…

Pretty surprising they never found this old lady. I suppose she’s dead by now. Weird story.

How did you read the OP and come to that conclusion?

Let me guess, you are MAGA and when this happened, you were all giddy about the possibility that, because Tucson is 60 miles from the Mexican border, the possibility that she was abducted and murdered by an illegal immigrant was politically expedient for your ilk?

Well why is she blaming herself. Is it because she is famous ( never heard of her before kidnapping) or is it because her political views.

US citizens abducted by cartel, severely beaten and tortured

Some have resorted to targeting both American and Mexican civilians whom they believe have something to lose, like a business or a job, or those who have family members willing to pay for their release.

In the case of the two Americans abducted in Juarez, Mexican authorities say they were taken to a stash house where they were later found with migrants from Central America and China. The group had reportedly been severely beaten and tortured in an attempt to get their families to pay a ransom.

It's something that does happen.
