HOLY CRAP. President Trump just revealed the present Iran's leaders gifted him was 8 boats of OIL through the Strait of Hormuz!
"Then they apologized for something, and SENT 2 MORE BOATS. It was 10 boats!"
"I said, well, I guess they were right, they were real! I think they were Pakistani-flagged. I said, well, we're dealing with the right people!"
"They said: to show you we're real, we'll let you have 8 big boats of oil."
quote:
One large **oil tanker** (typically a **Very Large Crude Carrier**, or VLCC, common for Persian Gulf/Iranian crude shipments through the Strait of Hormuz) carries roughly **2 million barrels** of crude oil.
### Current Oil Prices (as of March 26, 2026)
Oil prices remain elevated due to tensions in the region:
- **Brent crude** (global benchmark, relevant for Middle East oil) trades around **$108–109 per barrel**.
- **WTI crude** sits near **$94–95 per barrel**.
### Value Calculation for One Tanker
Using ~2 million barrels and Brent at approximately $108/barrel:
**Rough cargo value ˜ $216 million per fully loaded tanker.**
- At the lower end (~1.9 million barrels): ~$205 million.
- At the higher end (~2.2 million barrels): ~$238 million.
This is the **market value of the oil cargo** itself (not including the ship, insurance, or transport costs). Actual realized value can vary based on the exact crude grade (e.g., Iranian or similar sour crudes may trade at a discount or premium), buyer, and spot market conditions.
For context on Trump's reference to "10 large oil tankers" as a "gift":
- 10 tankers would represent roughly **20 million barrels**, potentially worth **~$2.16 billion** at current prices.
- Note that these tankers were reportedly Pakistan-flagged and part of ongoing shipments (historically often destined for buyers like China or India). Details on whether this was a direct concession, delayed transit, or goodwill gesture remain unverified and disputed by Iran.
Freight/shipping costs for such a voyage have also spiked dramatically amid regional tensions (sometimes exceeding $400,000+ per day for VLCCs), but that is separate from the oil's commodity value.
Prices fluctuate hourly, so this is a snapshot—check live benchmarks for the latest. The "tremendous amount of money" Trump mentioned aligns with these multi-hundred-million-dollar figures per tanker in today's high-price environment.
Do wonder which leadership has the power to give the tankers & we’re able to negotiate with

Can’t be! The never Trump clowns said Iranian propaganda was right and he wasn’t negotiating with anyone!

Was it free oil or free passage?

I’ll bet however much you would like to be that the gift was free passage.
Pakistani flagged vessels full of oil wouldn’t be Iran’s to give to anyone.

I am going to go out on a limb and predict you won't see this covered very much on CNN...they are still questioning if there have been any talks with Iran

If they cover it at all it'll be to let you know what a pittance that actually is. $2b seems like a lot of money, and it is, but compared to what's at stake it's nothing. It's one day's worth of traffic through Hormuz.

It says the gift was passage, not oil.

Free passage, I assume.
That seems more likely
That's a lot different than how OP is making it sound...like they're literally shipping it here to the U.S. to add to the SPR or something.

Seems more like a gift for Pakistan.

India or China probably. They receive most of that oil. Tankers were flagged Pakistani, but that doesn't mean the oil was going there.

Thank you, DJT.
We love all of the big beautiful oil barrels rolling in to our country, further decreasing the cost of energy prices so that regular, every day hard-working Americans continue to have a shot at the American dream.

has nothing to do with the money it has to do with what he said was right and it wasn't made up....there is a bigger picture here.
ETA-it is a pretty big deal no matter how much you want to minimalize it

So, the "gift" is allowing the strait to operate as intended as long as it isn't US or Israeli tankers?
