Was waiting for someone at a restaurant and a guy walks in and asks for a job application

The two young dumb (but hot) hostess chicks were flabbergasted and had no idea how to reply. The guy asking for a job was older and black and not your definition of “well dressed” but I could tell he was trying. They said a lot of ummmm and giggling and uhhhh and then one left to get the manger. He comes back with the hostess and speaks to the guy who says the same thing along the lines of “I was hoping you had a job application I could fill out” the manager also is young and dumb and a bit awkward and says something along the lines of “it doesn’t work like that you can apply online” and then my party meeting me walked in. I hope that dude got a job and when was the last time any of you filled out a paper job application at a business? It’s been since I was in high school a long time ago.

Was this a steakhouse or a Jason's
deli type place?
I'm hungry - that's why I'm asking.

It was an upscale sushi restaurant.

Hey at least that person was looking for a job instead being a non-job seeker...

100% and good for him. But man for older people who have probably worked labor type jobs their whole life I can imagine how hard it has to be to figure out how to do this shite online. It’s easy for us. But for many they have no clue.

There’s a thread almost identical to this by the poster “Big Fat Guy”….this post would fit right into it!

I was reading the other thread about having to jump thru hoops to be taken seriously during a job search.
One comment was very concerning which was regarding AI generated applications/resumes. A lot of smaller companies probably don't have the resources to filter out and protect themselves against that kind of fraudulent activity. It only hurts them in the long run for the most part...
It also makes me empathize with job seekers in this day and age. I count my blessings at the same time.
My final thought is that the old saying has always been the case but never more true that, "It's not what you know, it's who you know."

I’ll be 45 in June and the last job I got was reading a newspaper and applying in person 24 years ago
Once I’m comfortable I really don’t like change. I could have chased more money faster but did it with the same company.

My current company is about 50/50 hard copy job application and online.
We get probably 2 to 3 people a week come in and fill out the forms.

That's what the personal interview is for. Face to face interaction is necessary to help weed out the pretenders. Everyone looks good on paper that they have composed or AI has for them.

From the hiring side, I actually hate online.
Ex: If we put an ad out for a delivery driver on Indeed, AI auto sends us every damn person on their website who has a driver's license.

Between online applications and rhe upcoming generation not having social skills this is all too common. I am lucky that paper applications serve a purpose and it isnt an issue for me

Yeah, I think that's one of those things that people do without giving it much thought.
You can do it all online, so you should. It's higher tech, so it's inherently better.
It's not.
Not when you're hiring unskilled or relatively unskilled workers, anyway. I couldn't care less what someone's resume looks like if I'm hiring them to answer phones, for example. What they are being hired for has nothing to do with their resume writing skills, and their skills and education are mostly irrelevant.
For a job like that I can tell way more about them by observing them walk into the office, ask for an application, and fill it out than I can a resume I got from them online.
And yeah, you get 300 applications online in 4 days for a job like that. If you made people drive to the office to fill out an application in person you'd only get the relevant, motivated applicants instead of the ones who were auto-applied by the algorithm.

Very few businesses even have or accept paper applications. Even when a business has a "we're hiring!" sign, it will always direct you to go online. I get it for convenience purposes, but it also can suck. The whole thing with going in person to fill out applications, that's a good way to make a good first impression. But online, you're nothing but a random name in a list.

Several people we see applying for USPS jobs, only do the initial leg work to show proof they are seeking employment to satisfy the requirements for unemployment benefits. Then we never see them again.
