How long before some a-hole has their bare feet dangling in the aisle while eating shrimp and stinking up the plane? I’m guessing day 1

Just imagine you get up from your seat and start walking to the bathroom and you see a whole row occupied by a person curled up in the fetal position snoring and drooling with peanut crumbs on the side of their face.

Outside of transcontinental flights (and I'm not sure it's even necessary for those), this seems overly stupid and will only serve to make flights worse for travelers.

For me I would love this. I fly across the ocean 6 times a year and this would save me 23 grand over 6 first class tickets. Bravo United!

having made many trips to Japan & Vietnam in both business class & economy... if these things are roughly 3x the cost of a normal economy seat, that would still be less than half a biz class flight. I can't sleep on a plane no matter how long the flight but I will never make that 14 hour flight in economy again. Just having some extra room to stretch out would be marvelous. Sign me up.

I've done this trick a few times on long haul flights. Wait until you get a half empty plane and then have the gate agent assign you an empty row. Got a solid 8 hours of sleep in the middle row of a 787 on a flight to New Zealand once. I brought an inflatable sleeping pad and inflatable pillow. People looked at me funny but screw 'em. I hate long flights.

So you have to purchase 3 economy tickets? Might as well buy First Class.

DFW to Narita or Haneda, 3 economy = $6,000
DFW to Narita or Haneda, 1 business class = $16,000

How many flights until we hear about “mile high club” in the “Relax Row?”

A few years ago, I had a first class from Maui to Bush and it was a coffin like seat. It resulted in a very bad back ache that took months to rectify.

United's doesn't look all that comfortable but if you're willing to pay for 3 seats, maybe it's better than sitting in row 86F for 11 hours.

that’s the policy I have, never will I cross the pond in coach, wife gets it and pays for our travel, and the gen pop public should not be allowed on the airplane

This is already offered internationally by several other airlines, but I can't imagine paying for this except on international flights

quote:

Air New Zealand (Skycouch): A pioneer of this concept, the Skycouch includes three seats with footrests that swing up to 90 degrees to create a 29-inch wide bed.
Lufthansa (Sleeper's Row): Available on long-haul flights of 11+ hours. It cannot be booked in advance but is available at check-in or the gate for roughly $179 to $249 per leg.
All Nippon Airways (ANA COUCHii): Offered on certain routes (notably Tokyo to Honolulu), these seats feature 90-degree footrests and specialized seatbelts for lying down.
Air Astana (Economy Sleeper): Allows passengers to book a full row on long-haul routes such as London to Kazakhstan for approximately $1,950.
Vietnam Airlines (Sky Sofa): Offers upgrades for approximately $100 per row, per passenger.

Implying you need a bed to do that on a plane

Air New Zealand has been doing this for at least 6 years. I did this in 2019 when I flew with them

I have a feeling this may cheapen my current Mile High Club status
