Sen Cassidy Rejects Invite to Radio Show Debate; Compares it to Biden Hiding in Basement

LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) — Though his campaign has not officially responded to a debate invitation for late April, Sen. Bill Cassidy said in a radio interview he is refusing to take part in the April 28 Louisiana Senate debate on the Moon Griffon Show.
Cassidy's argument is that a 9 a.m. debate is not a good time for working Louisiana voters to tune in. However, the move puts Cassidy in an awkward spot: he spent weeks publicly pressuring his opponents to debate, and now he’s the one turning down a debate invitation.
According to KEEL News, Cassidy told reporters the mid-morning timeslot is a problem because most people are at work or at school when the debate would air. When KEEL pointed out the debate video would be available to watch online later, Cassidy pushed back: “How many people will actually go back and watch that?”
Cassidy didn’t hold back in explaining why he sees the format as a non-starter.
“Having a debate in the mid-morning when people are at work or at school is a little bit like the Joe Biden campaign strategy, hiding in the basement and hoping nobody notices,” Cassidy told KEEL.

I'm proud to offer the first frick Bill Cassidy in this thread.

Cassidy's campaign is nothing more than a "comedy of errors".

Refuses to debate, then throws out a Biden insult to let everybody know he’s one of us.
His campaign people need to get the John Kerry playbook out so they can make him Joe Sixpack.

An outsider's perspective: in this case, Cassidy is both right and wrong and I personally can't see the debate w/o Cassidy is significant except only to the anti-Cassidy crowd which already isn't voting for him.
Cassidy is right. 9:00 am is too early.
Cassidy is right. A radio debate is stupid. Especially at 9:00 am.
Cassidy is wrong. Debate is good. Anytime
Cassidy is right. The moderator already has a publicly stated predisposed bias against Cassidy.

Terrible excuse. It's radio format. People can listen to it after they get off work. Crap doesn't need to be live these days.

Cassidy shouldn’t be complaining anymore about debates. You got one and turned it down. Better enjoy your goodbye tour.

While I despise Cassidy - Letlow needs to agree to a televised debate - the voters of this state deserve to see their US Senate candidates in a live debate - for whatever reason, Letlow not only refuses to participate in a live debate but will not even let her voice be heard on her commercials other than to say "I approved this message" - she must be an idiot on the issues

I'm pretty sure Moon Griffon puts out his radio shows as a podcast every day.

She can not beat him in a debate. She does not come off well in high pressure question situations. She does not need to debate him. Just run constant commercials that Cassidy voted to impeach Trump. That's all she has to do.

Her campaign is being run by Gov Landry’s folks. His chief of staff stepped down to run the campaign. Landry also refused to participate in debates during the 2023 Gov campaign. I’m guessing similar strategy is being deployed here.
But hey, she did state she would agree to at least this debate, and Fleming accepted. I think it could be very interesting even with just those two with someone like Moon as the “moderator”.

There's too many R's in this primary. We need to go ahead and get it limited down to 1 to take Cassidy on. Go in a back room somewhere and make a deal, but get behind one single candidate.
Flemming or Letlow - pick one. If there remains 2 against Cassidy, he's going to win this fricking thing. And I'll be honest, there seems like an awful lot of smoke that this is somehow purposely executed to be this way.

Unless President Trump himself intervenes, said deal would have to be made between Fleming and Landry. After their back and forth, I highly doubt that’s going to happen.

The winner of the GOP closed primary must receive 50% +1 to advance. So whether in the first round of the primary, or the second, Cassidy would have to get 50% +1 of the registered Republicans in Louisiana to pull the lever for him.
There’s no conceivable way that should happen…but…never doubt voters.

He’s not wrong. Radio debates are pointless at this juncture.. I need to see letlow face an uncomfortable situation….
