Driving a rental in Atlanta on the 285 merge from the rental center. I didn’t cut him off but didn’t let him in either. That’s a first.

Brandishing a firearm is no minor deal at least here in FL.
"Brandishing a firearm in Florida is illegal under Florida Statute 790.10, which prohibits the improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon or firearm in a rude, careless, angry, or threatening manner—unless done in necessary self-defense or defense of others.
It is not a felony by default. Improper exhibition is typically a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by:
Up to 1 year in jail
Up to $1,000 in fines
Up to 1 year of probation
Potential forfeiture of the firearm
A permanent criminal record"
If you had him on video in a non blue area he was not just looking at termination, he would likely do time.

Unless you can't afford bond, you'd be doing no time over a m1 offense in Florida, as someone with a scoresheet low enough to be in law enforcement.

you're leaving out very important details in this matter.

Maybe you're right with a clean record, there have been cases in the news where people caught 10 year sentences for brandishing a firearm but its entirely possible they had existing records.
It was something they emphasized heavily when I did my CCW training, if you pull you better be able to claim defense because you've now put yourself in legal jeopardy.

Nobody is getting 10 years on a misdemeanor in Florida

We know. Most would be extremely embarrassed by this.

You're correct, they were catching 5 years, the remaining portions of their sentences were either for other associated crimes or as part of the 10-20-life sentencing law.
justice.gov: 5 years
Tampa Bay: 10 years (also robbery)

Why?

Its not his responsibility or legal obligation to let him in. Cop should know that.
