Kinda wild the only other country to operate the iconic F-14s was Iran. We sold 79 to them in the 70s before they became little shitheads.

He may have to hot-wire a drone in Top Gun part III. Or steal a camel.

Not going to lie top gun II in theatres was simply amazing. Just unbelievable. It’s the rare case of not ruining your legacy.

The Tomcat was my favorite jet as a kid...its still a badass piece of machinery considering how long ago it was designed.

Would be cool if the US put 2 or 3 back together just for demonstrations

I don't know if there are any airframes left...don't think there are any in the boneyard. Carrier aircraft do get the crap beaten out of them between catapult launches and snagging wires while landing.

There are a few in museums. One in Pensacola and one in the Smithsonian as far as ones I’ve see.

Even if they could.. they couldnt maintain them. All the equipment used to maintain and reproduce stuff like the wing boxes were destroyed along with the 100s of aircraft themselves. Only thing left is a few stripped down museum pieces.

I have a notebook in the attic with Imperial Iranian Air Force F14 stickers 'Anytime Baby' from my time there in the 70s.

Was the plot a little lazy, contrived, and derivative at times? Yeah. But was the movie entertaining as hell? ABSOLUTELY

There is an estimated of 80 on display, but all have been stripped of components that would allow them to fly and any sort of avionics systems. The boneyard in Arizona only has a rough estimate of 10 left but most parts have been stripped for the ones on display and the rest were shredded.

In 2008 there was a parts embargo in place once because Iran was attempting to get parts for the planes through backchannel methods. That's when they decided to shred the fleet as well.

I actually think you can see Cruise's growth as an actor. The emotion he displays in the meeting with Iceman...that can't be easy for an actor.

I believe they had a couple old 747’s too…maybe a tanker variant if that was ever a thing?
