The renovations have been announced

The project would be the most extensive renovation of the Smoothie King Center since it opened in 1999, something officials say is needed to bring the building up to modern NBA standards. It would feature the addition of 2,155 lower-level seats, upgraded concourses, new social spaces and a redesign of the surrounding campus that includes two parking lots adjacent to the arena along Le Rouge Street, Champions Square, the old New Orleans Center and Macy’s parking garage.

How do you feel about this? Definitely needed? Not enough? Nothing for the Upperdeck?

Lipstick on a pig and not going to help draw attendance/revenue with a rudderless franchise.

don’t you ever get tired of this constant whining? Because we get tired of you.

There is not going to be a new arena within the lifetimes of most people here. It’s too much money, there isn’t a good site for it that’s better than what we have, etc etc. it’s a non starter.

the primary issue with the SKC is too many seats upstairs and not enough downstairs. The rest is window dressing. If the engineers have a design that allows for 2000+ more lower bowl seats then that fixes the issue. It is far more cost effective to then redevelop and improve the campus around it and hopefully drive engagement as a space that can be used for other things as well. This plan would also benefit the saints who I assume would be expected to participate

all of this, even if it’s just a plan, is good news

This is good news. There is no need for a new arena. If team wins they will sell the seats. It is also good for concerts and other events

I'm honestly wondering if there is a consulting firm somewhere that keeps recommending the teams and franchises to just go all-in on premium seating and amenities for corporate customers and high-priced ticket holders

You're seeing it across most G5 teams in college football, and it's making its way into pro sports in smaller markets as well

Well are you okay with it? Good enough? San Antonio, Dallas, OKC decided to build new arenas.

In the end winning cures everything.

Fletcher had said something about acquiring the post office if they decide to close that. That would be nice for development of an entertainment district.

I'm fine with good enough if it doesn't put a large burden on tax payers. New Orleans has to many problems to build a mostly tax payer funded new arena like OKC who owners are paying $50 million of a $900 million project. I was very pleased with the Dome renovation.

This photo shows a large chunk of upper deck cut out for premium seats Hope you are cool paying for more seating in what is left of the upper deck.

But hey Premium members get invited to the Draft party. So there is that.
