LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) — Conservative radio host Moon Griffon is set to host a three-way debate between the top Republican candidates in Louisiana’s U.S. Senate race on April 28, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. on his show. Rep. Julia Letlow and Treasurer John Fleming have both accepted the invitation. Sen. Bill Cassidy has not responded.

The development flips the script on a debate standoff that has dominated the race for weeks. Cassidy has been publicly demanding debates since early March, while Letlow held out for one on a conservative radio platform. Griffon’s show is exactly what Letlow’s campaign said it wanted. Now it’s Cassidy who hasn’t answered the call.

I haven't seen anything that would definitively tell me there is a meaningly favorable distinction between the two. All I know for sure is, I'll crawl on my knees a mile through broken glass to vote for either against Cassidy should he make the runoff against one.

Cassidy will debate. He should want to. He’s behind.

Letlow isn’t perfect. But, given the choices:

Letlow > Fleming > 50 layers of crap > Cassidy

They’re all pretty meh, and there won’t be any appreciable difference in voting performance regardless of who wins.

Me either. I think they'll both vote the same way once in DC. Fleming may be less of a pushover for certain things. But JL is friends with my wife so that would be cool to have a direct line to a US senator

Is there a state you'd like to see Louisiana emulate in electing Senators?

A lot of even supposed staunch Republican ones seem to be a good bit of a mess in this regard for whatever reason.

First one to demand that Cassidy commit to removing John Thune wins.

I was mocking having a radio debate with a clown like Moon Griffon. Just further demonstration that we aren’t a serious population.

My issue with Louisiana isn’t in comparison to other States’ Senators, it’s the lack of candidates willing or able to run for office given how shitty our politics and government are.

Fleming is fine, but I don’t really think he’ll vote differently than the other two. Cassidy’s impeachment vote, which was meaningless, is the only reason there’s even a challenge.

What vote was that? Please cite as that could be a gamechanger.

Cassidy wants to sit it out so he can learn from them. His trick is age old. If he sits, turn the debate into a discussion of why Cassidy must be replaced. Then have other debates without Cassidy.

Destroy the man!!
