Per Mike Davis: Senate does not need 60 votes to pass legislation. Only to end debate.

Mike Davis just said on War Room that we are being lied to.

60 votes are only needed to end debate and republicans can pass the Save Act if they have the will to use the standing filibuster.

You're missing the big picture here though. Republicans don't WANT TO pass the Save Act. It's not that they can't, it's that they don't want to.

The most insulting part of it is how they think you're really that stupid, that they can lie to your face and tell you much they want it and then do all this song and dance bullshite. That they can say "Oh we know 90% of you want this and um, we... we really want it too. It's just that.. um.. HEY! LOOK OVER THERE!"

You don't want to pass the bill. We get it. You don't want to win elections. You want to make sure congress can always be pulled into the Dem direction so you don't have to legislate. But what do I know? Maybe the electorate really is that stupid. You all keep putting these grifting pieces of shite back on the Hill. They're still getting a check. They're still pleasing the lobbies who really run the show.

@Grok, is this true?

That has been my understanding all along. Chip Roy said this a month ago.

1. You cannot vote on the bill unless you end debate on the bill.

2. Isn't the standing filibuster the same the talking filibuster. Republicans do not have the political will to do that because certain republican Senators like Collins, Mitch the Bitch Turtle, and Tillis do not want it passed.

Yes, the standing is the same as the talking filibuster.

Coach Tubbs told The Charlie Kirk Show that some of those senators cannot physically do the talking filibuster so they are against it. I don’t know if I should laugh or cry.

The Republican senate is worthless. They won’t even vote on the bill to defund the Taliban.

When your Senator helps you, it will be the first time.

Correct.

Would require 51 votes to evoke the standing filibuster, IIRC. They do not seem to have that.

That doesn't make much sense, the GOP wouldn't be doing any of the filibustering.

Some of them are too old to physically do it.

I keep thinking if they can prop Biden up for 4 years, these old fricks could get this done.

Turtle, etc., would not be filibustering so I am not seeing where it would be an issue for them. Only the Senator actually talking has to be standing, etc. The others don't even have to be in the building.

41 senators have to be present.

They could rotate the old geezers out. It could get done if they wanted.

Right, they have to keep a quorum in order to continue debate. But that still doesn't make sense as a reason for GOP senators to oppose the talking filibuster.

More likely they either don't want the legislation to pass, or don't want to open the can of worms for the next time Democrats hold the chamber.

I believe this is the most likely scenario.

Excuses are flying around too rampantly.

I saw something the other day on Twitter...I think from Jamie Dupree, that said the talking filibuster allows each senator 2 different 3 hour blocks of time to speak on the main bill and any questions/amendments. With the SAVE act there are or were 7 open questions, so if each of the 47 Democrat senators used their full allotment of time (47x6x7) there would be 1,974 hours, or just over 82 days. And, I believe, that the Senate could never adjourn, because the 2 speech rule resets each new business day.
