I just use matte spray paint and homemade stencils. Works great

I've done this and turned out great. I was nervous the first time, so practiced on an old junk pellet gun I had laying around. Doing proper prep work is key to success here.

When you say paint, do you mean like spray paint? Because that's pretty straight forward.
Or, do you mean cerakote it?

Can spray cerakote yourself easily with an airbrush if you have an air compressor.

I am pretty sure you can spray it yourself. They have heat and air cure versions. I’m guessing air cured isn’t as durable as heat cured, but probably still more durable that regular spray paint.

I came into this thread hoping for people posting pics of their DIY painted rifles and shotguns. I was disappointed. I love seeing the sometimes badass paintjobs some people are capable of. I even enjoy some of the more basic paintjobs as well.

Yall drop some damn pics!

I've done ends of handguards I have cut down and a few other things. No issues. Used a small sample container or whatever the smallest they sell.

You can do it yourself using weapon stencils and Brownells Aluma-Hyde II Spray-On Epoxy Firearm Finish. Takes patience but easily done. You have to make sure each coat dries well before putting on the next coat. Once its done I always hit with fine steel wool to smooth out.

Tape up everything you don't want paint...trigger, muzzle, bolt carrier face, optics etc.

One of my guns I did.

My 870 SBS

I can't help you w/ recs for anyone in BR to paint your gun, but if you're looking for DIY paint jobs, I've done a number. I've used rattle can Rustoleum, Krylon, and Alumahyde 2 (from Brownell's). Alumahyde is more durable than Rustoleum and Krylon, but also more expensive and has to be ordered from Brownell's. If using AH2, I like to heat it up w/ a blow dryer for a few minutes between each coat. Brownell's has some online tutorials.

Remington XP 100's in 6BR and 22BR. I think this was Krylon w/ Kryon "webbing" paint.

Savage Striker in 308 Win using a product called "trunk paint" to add the white texture. I've not seen it al WM in MANY yrs.

XP 100 in 7-08. AH 2 on the receiver/barrel and Krylon/Rustoleum on the stock w/ unknown brand of stencils.

If you do it yourself, you can spray paint on cardboard for practice. Prep the surface to be painted really well. After that, I first use a layer of primer. Spray multiple LIGHT coats of the final paint. If using stencils, don't spray the entire stock/gun w/ each different color of paint or the layer of paint may get too thick. Once you're done, spray on a layer or two of clear coat.
My next DIY paint job will be an XP stock using the
"sponge" method.

That SBS looks awesome! The AR does as well, but the SBS is kinda making me want to add to my SD shotgun collection, which currently only includes a 20ga Mossberg 590 shockwave pistol grip. Aside from duck hunting, its the most fun I've had shooting a shotgun

Thanks. Bought a 14” police barrel off of GB for $100 a few years ago. Put a tritium bead sight on the front. I call it my ghetto blaster.
