My homeowners insurance policy is going to renew soon and I need to shop around for better rates. I know I'm paying way too much. More than anyone else I know. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what company and/or agent they use and are very pleased with? Thanks.

I have been mostly pleased with Riverlands out of the New Orleans area (think they moved their main office to St. Charles a few years ago). They have me with Sure for my homeowners and Progressive for auto.

Used a broker when we lived in Lafayette. We have rental properties in Oklahoma and Farm Bureau more than tripled our renewal premiums so we shopped around. Surprisingly, State Farm was the cheapest.

We went with State Farm because we got a great deal on our 4 properties, home and auto. We left State Farm when we were in Dallas because they got too expensive. I never expected them to be so affordable to be honest.

Maybe check A.M. Best to get their claims paying ability on the companies you're considering. Good luck

good luck if you're south of 10. mine just renewed and went up another $1000 annually which adds another $150 to my escrow because of a shortage. nothing i can do about it. sage sure is the best rate i could get. nearly $6k annually for a modest house. not in flood zone. thank god for my 2.9 interest

I got no complaints about Sage Sure, but my policy with them recently went up about $500 and so I started looking around. Got a quote from Homesite who my flood insurance is with and it was more coverage and about $800 cheaper. Sage Sure would not come down on their rate so I switched.

I was a Sage Sure customer for 10+ years but just switched a few months ago. The rates tripled in 5 years and was almost 15k at the newest renewal. My broker found a new company and got it back down under 10k

I have Farm Bureau now. Last 3 years since I finished building, I had 3 separate policies. Flood through FEMA for $1200/yr, Homeowners through Farm Bureau for $1400/yr, and Wind and Hail through Citizens for $6900/yr with just increased to $8100/yr.

Got in touch with my Farm Bureau agent and they are writing whole policies again. My new quote is for $5500/yr for homeowners and wind & hail. Farm Bureau is pricey but they have a good record of paying timely.

We also have car insurance through them. Not sure what kind of frickery is going on at Farm Bureau, but last year when I called to ask about adding a car to our plan, somehow we got better coverage along with 3 vehicles and for the same price we were paying for 2 vehicles prior to me calling. This will be the second time they tell me they have a “new” system that will help me save money.

Waiting on a quote from a local insurance broker to see what the difference is and who they find to write policies. I’ll try to remember to update once I get the new numbers.

Hope this helps.

I have two houses in the garden district that were with state farm and got heavy increases at renewal time. I reached out to Zach Davis with Goosehead. Dude was awesome - was able to save me money on both houses and lower my deductible while doing it. Explained everything really well too. Insurance in Louisiana is tough, but I highly recommend Zach.

Same story here… when we bought our current house 5 years ago we were less than half what we are now. It’s ridiculous. Time to shop…. Lately every time I do it’s “they’re the best value”.

BabyTac will be along shortly to tell you that homeowner's insurance is for suckers and that you're a poor.

Care to explain? I've been working with them for over 10 years, but my only other experience was with Stone Insurance who had us with a lot of unnecessary products and a lot of overlapping coverages

After I dumped State Farm I used a broker in Mandeville to shop for me and she got me with Safeco for 2000 cheaper and better coverage (hurricane deductible). Five years with them with minor increases and this year it went up almost 1500. So she shopped it again and got me with swyfft for less than the original Safeco premium 5 years ago, similar hurricane. I’ve got the home inspection next week. Total premium for 400K coverage in Hammond is 3500.

so…get a broker is my advice

Allstate dropped for the second year in a row for me. I haven't sat down with the numbers but my notes is anout $250 above my pre-Ida note. I did get my roof fortified about a year ago
