Oscar voters on Chalamet: The more they got to know him, "the less they liked him"

Plenty of douchebags have won Best Actor though, so I dunno.

quote:

For months, Chalamet appeared to be the nominee most likely to clinch the coveted Best Actor award at the Oscars for his performance in “Marty Supreme.”

However, it was an emotional Michael B. Jordan who took home the award for his dual role on “Sinners.”

Insiders have now opened up about the reason why the 30-year-old actor walked away empty-handed, noting that his attitude was off-putting for the majority of the voters.

According to reports, Chalamet spoke to seven Academy voters in the buildup leading to the film’s biggest night, but only one voted in his favor.

“Timothée is incredibly talented,” a voter told Rob Shuter’s #ShuterScoop. “But he’s very difficult.”

“Being on set with him isn’t a positive experience,” another voter claimed. “He’s arrogant.”

quote:

It appears Chalamet left much to be desired during the campaign, as his alleged difficult reputation quickly spread amongst other voters.

“He tried to control the PR and marketing strategy,” an industry insider explained. “This is a 30-year-old actor telling 50- and 60-year-old professionals how to do their jobs.”

“The more voters got to know him, the less they liked him,” another source shared. “There’s no love lost for Timmy.”

Some industry experts tried to blame his relationship with Kylie Jenner, as reports earlier claimed he was trying to stay away from her, but an insider suggested that it had nothing to do with the actor’s Oscars loss.

“This had nothing to do with Kylie,” one voter said. “She’s actually more liked than he is.”

Meanwhile, Jordan’s reputation speaks for itself as he appears to be more level-headed and beloved in the industry.

“Michael B. Jordan is the opposite,” one voter told the reporter. “Kind, polite, respectful — and everyone loves working with him.”

We used to have men like Bogart, Redford, Newman, even Clooney and Pitt. Now the A-list leading man of Hollywood is a tiny little shite named Timmy with pubes on his face. Hollywood is over

So it’s based on people liking you and not the “work” or whatever you call it the actors actually do?

That seems dumb

I was surprised to read he's 30 years old. Seems much younger, as in, immature.

What does that have to do with his performance?

Sean Penn won so that's obviously not the reason

I call BS. Just race propaganda to justify what was a racial choice for the award, not that it even matters who wins anyways.

He is hard to take seriously in Dune. Especially Dune 2.

Having said that I don't mind him too much. But there's a place for Tom Hardy that guys like Tim C can't fill.

You really can't put DiCaprio in that list above, either. But he's hammered out a good career and is always good to watch. He's just not the same kind of "leading man."

I was really liking Jason Isbell until Covid hit and found out a little more about him.

Sometimes you can't separate the artist from the art.

Jason Isbell is a self absorbed shite.

MBJ’s performance was just as deserving to win as anyone else nominated this year. If you want to argue the category was weak overall, sure. Or that Plemmons should’ve been nominated.

I just don’t think Chalamet’s performance was all that good. And plenty of asshats have won an Oscar. I don’t buy that excuse.

Well that is kind of their job. It's not supposed to be a popularity contest award.

Agreed. I still went and saw him the last time he was in town and it was a great show. At no point in the show did I think about his political views.

Jordan seems likable and maybe Chalamet offended the wrong important person?

Which is not what winning an Oscar is supposed to be about. If this were really an accurate story it would undermine the stated purpose and credibility of the award.

Is that true? No idea

Sean Penn is a potato with no sense of humor and they've given that guy an Oscar on three separate occasions. That's the same amount of Oscars they've given Daniel Day-Lewis and Jack Nicholson.

I haven't seen any "race propaganda" against the other white actors who lost. I got a weird feeling about Chalamet after his Golden Globe win. He wasn't magnanimous at all. He got up there and said he was going to be one of the best actors ever and he's going for every award at full speed. It was weird.

As a straight white male, I am more than fine with Michael B Jordan taking Home the Oscar.

So they admit it’s a popularity contest and not about the acting. Not to mention “Oscars so white” likely affected the vote
