AeroVironment (AV). Border patrol has been using them for a few months already. Operators use an actual XBox controller. The beam basically ininerates the plastic on the drones (don't ask me what happens if the drone isn't plastic because I don't know). Now we know why the airspace around El Paso was shut down. Don't want to say where I saw the story about it, because then the thread would run the risk of turning retarded. Regardless of where I saw it, it's some incredibly cool shite.

They might be smaller now, but when the Xbox first came out, I thought their controllers were too big.

The Xbox or video game controllers have been used for other things too. I can’t remember where I heard about it recently, maybe underwater drones or something? 30+ years of gaming control capitalism is logically going to be a good problem solver.

Mast controllers on subs.

The U.S. Navy has adopted Xbox 360 controllers to operate photonic masts in submarines, finding them more user-friendly and cost-effective compared to traditional joystick controls. This approach allows sailors to utilize familiar gaming technology for efficient operation while submerged.

Use of Xbox Controllers in Submarines
Overview
The U.S. Navy has adopted Xbox 360 controllers for specific submarine operations. This decision was made to improve the efficiency and comfort of controlling photonic masts, which are advanced alternatives to traditional periscopes.

Benefits of Xbox Controllers
Attribute Details
Cost Xbox controllers cost about $30 each, significantly cheaper than previous custom joysticks that cost around $38,000.
Familiarity Many sailors are already familiar with Xbox controllers, making training easier and quicker.
Ergonomics The design of Xbox controllers is more comfortable and user-friendly compared to older joystick models.

You get it. It's amazing how planned out our society is. E.g. most children's activities for boys have been covertly training them to be better soldiers for at least a century. Football and first person shooters are two obvious modern examples

A compete guess... It may take longer but perhaps it just keeps heating up the drone until the mechanics reach their breaking point. As I started in the Iran thread, this is not what's being used in the middle east right now. This is a proof of concept to the press/public for a much more powerful classified version in military use.

The xbox controllers are what the current soldiers easily adapt since they have been playing it since they were born.

On a different note, and this will be interesting to you since you identify as an UGA fan. I copied the video link and it starts at the when Gen. Rasch appears.

The U.S. Army officer that is getting the tour brief is a UGA graduate, Lt. General Robert Rasch (3 Star), Ret.. Very sharp man. I worked for him my last and at his last assignment. Funny moment I remeber was when some half arse asked him on a town hall if there was a plan for more office space, this was huge SCIF and the majority were working from home so the place was empty at times. Gen. Rasch said he had been there for 3 months and that he was told there was a Georgia Bulldog fan working there and that he had been by his office space many times looking for that person and that person was never there, so hell no. I laughed. He is a damn good guy.
