Buying a New Dog

Do you negotiate? Accept the price? What are you looking for?

youre going to a puppy mill arent you and not getting a dog from a shelter

If I want a specific breed I search for a breed specific rescue. You may get lucky. Typically cheaper and you still get what you want. We adopted our cane corso from a rescue in Kansas, he was caravaned down by a bunch of people and we picked him up in Natchez.

Yeah. I try to tell it that if it learns not to shite in the floor quickly I will give it all the best treats it wants.

i hate this shitty guilt trip.
if I’ve got the money to buy a puppy, why do you shelter people care?

Low mileage and a good warranty.
Seriously though, research the traits you're looking for... when we wanted a puppy we wanted little to no barking, happy, not overly physical, good with small children. So we got a Golden (she's my avi).
Once you know what you want, start sniffing around where to find such a pup. Local veterinary clinics probably have a good line on breeding bitches in your area.
If papers are important to you, research that as well.
Don't forget to familiarize yourself with any common health issues and costs for your type of dog. Some have ear issues, some hip, some prone to flipped bellies, some breathing, etc...

Fixed it.

But if everyone went to the shelter to get dogs wouldn’t the puppy mill dogs end up at the shelter?
Who gives a frick.

Those pushing everyone to go to a shelter to adopt a dog are probably the same ones that wanted a wife that had been tried out and rejected a couple of times before because she would be someone that was not an amateur that would know more about real life experiences.

if you are buying from an established breeder, no you are not going to be negotiating LOL. The price is the price and they’ll probably not be too happy about you trying to haggle. Breeders can be a little (or a lot) standoffish and that’s a good way to get on their shitlist
Obviously a private seller is different

Lay your offer in CASH on the table. Hard for them to refuse cold hard cash if the offer is within reason.

I love whenever people disregard the original post question and instead say stuff like muh adopt don’t buy a designer dog muuhhhh
I think it all depends on the circumstances. If you’re buying a specific breed of dog from a specific breeder, probably not negotiating. If you’re buying a lab from a local mom&pop breeder then yes, I am probably going to try and negotiate the price IF I have gotten other prices and feel the price is above market value

Apply this to women, cars, etc. doesn't work for normal life. You want something you can trust, shelter dogs just ain't it every time.
If you have a family, kids especially, get what you want.
Those that believe this shelter mantra, have you personally been in the middle of a dog that's lost his shite and a kid? I have, many stitches later I won't do it again. I'm happy to donate, volunteer, and help animals find a suitable home, shelter dogs aren't for me right now.

Because once you’ve had a puppy you realize it’s better to rescue a German shepherd or husky that need help and will be killed in a shelter

But I want what I want breed wise. And I want to raise it from a puppy to avoid the built bad habits that come with a shelter dogs. I love dogs, we foster all the time. But the dogs we own we raised from puppy on.
