American-born Duplantis beat the previous world best — which he set at September’s World Championships — by a single centimetre, clearing 6.31 meters at the IFU Arena in Uppsala, Sweden.

I feel like people think this is so passer now but he really is dominant
for reference, He broke the old record in 2020 was set in 2014. It broke a record set in 1994.
Just recently a 2nd jumper broke the 2014 record and hit 6.17m. So the rest of the pole vault world is 6 years behind Mondo.

I tried to find the thread where someone called him a “trader” during the olympics but the search function wasn’t cooperating.

The advancing a millimeter at a time makes this lose its shine. Good for him but this feels like a stunt to just keep him in a headline.

Mondo Duplantis does get paid significant bonuses—ranging from roughly $30,000 to over $100,000—each time he breaks the pole vault world record, which he has done 14 times. By breaking the record by only 1cm at a time, he maximizes his earnings from competition bonuses and sponsors like Puma.

Sergio Bubka did the same thing. When you get paid for every record, you would break it an inch at a time too.
Of course he is that far ahead of everyone else in the world. Probably has 5 or 6 inches more to go... or at least that is why I told her.

Yeah every event he just increases it by 0.01 and breaks his own record.

He is amazingly good at what he does!

He went what 1/254” of an inch higher than his last world record?

I know others have said millimeter, but it was a centimeter. The measurements are in centimeters. So it was 2/5ths of an inch.

Maybe Mondo can jump from one planet to another.

It shows he is savvy. He gets a bonus each time he breaks a record.
