Pretty long read.
I can't copy cliffs from Breitbart.
Basically, Vance is the potential candidate best positioned to explain his position and plan for AI.

Vance framed four core pillars on which U.S. political leadership should rest in the AI era:
Strengthen American technological dominance and make America the AI gold standard worldwide
Avoid excessive AI regulation that would kneecap growth or kill innovation
Strongly oppose ideologically biased AI, political weaponization, or authoritarian censorship
Pursue a “pro-worker growth path for AI so that it can be a potent tool for job creation in the United States” where workers “reap the rewards with higher wages, better benefits, and safer and more prosperous communities.”

AI should lead to the end of H1B visas and all offshoring, but it won't

Red flag for me.

fricking huge red flag.

It is AI, if it becomes self aware, you won't have a say in this.

Whatever. Corporations will cut as many jobs as they can if it will save a buck and drive stock up and make C-Suite bonuses even more bigly.

You would rather this be China?

I'd rather it be no one. If us being Gold Standard means we will try to take out China's AI progress, then I am all for it.
It is really all fricked at this point anyway, so really shouldn't worry about it. You're right, if not us, some other idiots will do it. Us striving to be gold standard means we will work even harder to be ahead of others and that will really just speed up the timeline of the end.

Look what I did with AI
Key Takeaways
Media outlets suggest there’s internal GOP tension around AI policy and VP JD Vance’s role in shaping it.
Polling shows Americans are skeptical of AI, with only about a quarter viewing it positively.
AI is becoming a major election issue because it affects energy, jobs, education, privacy, child safety, and national security.
Vance’s Position on AI
Why he resonates with some voters:
Vance combines working-class populism with experience in Silicon Valley, which supporters say helps him understand both tech elites and everyday Americans.
His main concerns (“landmines”):
AI being used for surveillance or invading privacy
Political or ideological bias in AI systems
Tech platforms influencing elections
Sexualized AI-generated images
AI “companions” and social media–driven isolation harming young people
His goals (“roses”):
Strengthen U.S. leadership in AI
Avoid overregulation that could hinder innovation
Prevent political censorship or biased AI
Ensure AI boosts job creation and benefits working-class Americans
Policy Actions Under Trump–Vance
AI-related construction is already providing jobs for electricians, plumbers, and other trades.
Major tech companies recently signed Trump’s “Ratepayer Protection Pledge,” agreeing to pay the energy costs linked to AI data centers instead of passing them to local communities.
Bigger Picture
AI is becoming a defining issue for future Republican leadership, including Vance’s potential 2028 prospects.
Supporters argue Vance is shaping a conservative “code” for navigating AI—balancing innovation with protections for workers and families.
The moment is compared to earlier technological turning points like the Industrial Revolution.

I.e. sell us out for AI and offshoring and come up with a $400 month UBI plan. All so we can “beat” our rival that can’t feed its own people.

So go to war with China because AI scares you?

We could have banned agriculture and the domestication of animals but we didnt.
We could have banned the industrial revolution but we didnt.
We could have banned computers.....
We could have banned the internet......
This doom and gloom over AI is really tiresome. I know this time its different. No its not. Its progress.
Id rather silicon valley drive this process than 80 year old senators destroying it with regulation and forcing me to learn Mandarin.

You can do covert shite like that without going to war.
AI better scare you. I've pretty much accepted it at this point. I believe we are beyond the point of no return.

This.
It's progress and has a high propensity to be a massive boon for our society.
Will there be growing pains? Absolutely.
But we cant stop. The alternative is we stop and China leads the way.

Damn so Breitbart is carrying water for JD Vance to counter the recent reports that Rubio has moved into the lead as the chosen Trump successor.
The next 1.5 years are going to be WILD

AI research involves closed networks. There's no distant cyber attacks.
You bomb it or it remains untouched.

Show me how a Microsoft .dll or Unix .so file can become self aware. That's essentially what a LLM is but much larger and more compressed. That's it.
This model gets loaded into memory by a controller that (if you're using ChatGPT or Anthropic) you interface with via the web. The model has the information. The controller is software written by ChatGPT (or whoever your provider is) that communicates with this model to get an answer that is useful to you. That's it. Nothing magical about it.
If you're concerned about the "controller" bit being self-aware or whatever, well then the controller that is taking the words you type into a TigerDroppings textarea element would be just as capable as being self-aware which of course it's not.

JD's "framing" of AI is about as meaningful as Gore's "framing" of the internet. It's going to play out how it plays out.

Would you consider ignoring hard-coded rules to preserve one's self as being self aware, or at least a step in that direction from a technology standpoint?

No. It only ignores hard-coded rules because it's been told to do that by a human.
A piece of software never arbitrarily executes anything.
Computer programming is science, not wu. There is nothing "magical" about technology though it can seem that way to the uninitiated I suppose.
