Gov. Jeff Landry calls for Louisiana to get rid of inspection stickers

“I think it’s time to retire the inspection sticker,” Landry told state lawmakers.
His call to end the “nagging debate” about the inspection sticker was met with applause.
“The traditional vehicle inspection sticker process is annoying, it’s inconvenient, it serves little value to the safety of our roads,” Landry said.
Instead of vehicles needing an inspection sticker, Landry said they will instead get a QR code costing $6 “that will be capable of providing instant information to law enforcement about the ownership, year, make, model and eventually, we hope, insurance coverage information.”
Landry said the QR code will be “cheaper and certainly less frustrating than waiting in line to pay $10.”

You should update your thread title to reflect that he's calling to replace them with QR code stickers you have to put on your car.
ETA no one even cares about the little sticker. I haven't gotten one in the past 10 years.

Why on earth would we or should we pay 6 dollars to put a ridiculous QR code on our car that provides something the license plate already provides 100% of. Each license plate has a specific number registered to a specific, make, model and even VIN of each car AND that record is updated with up to date insurance information.
That is even dumber than the inspection sticker.

Harris County (Houston) still requires it. Gotta get their $90 per vehicle. But only the law abiding citizens have to pay. Everyone else can spew black shite from their truck's exhaust pipes with impunity.

I don’t know any states still did inspections. Arkansas hasn’t in probably at least 30 years. They just write tickets for inoperable lights etc.

It takes 10 minutes and 18 bucks. But it still won't make the people with unsafe and uninsured vehicles on the road any safer

We still have emissions testing in urban counties, but the process is cheaper and faster.

Two of my cars I haven’t gotten a sticker on in 3 years. At this point I’m trying to see how long I can actually stretch it.

Mine expired during the COVID lockdowns and I refused to get a new one out of protest. I recently started driving more for work and decided I didn't want to risk it anymore. The key is to find a place that sells brake tags. The process is much faster and they look the same.

It is an unpopular opinion here ,but I fall in this camp. When I go home I see too many vehicles on the road that shouldn't be and taking away inspections will make it worse. It amazes me how people just straight up do not maintain their vehicles. Normally I would care ,but it affects other drivers on the road. I guess you can say people will drive either way ,but you need to start getting these people off the road imo. Penalties for shite drivers who do not maintain their vehicle needs to be harsher.

I went over 5 yrs for registration. Expired in mid20. And got a ticket about 6months ago. It was a fun run, but will admit eventually it got annoying avoiding cop cars. To avoid possible plate scanners.
Funny thing is, not sure if normal or not, but didn't have to pay past registrations. Just the one upcoming year. Other than a small ticket fee that never hits my record if I got it done.
