I'd rather that than the smell of weed that lingers in your car for way to long.

QR code costing $6 “that will be capable of providing instant information to law enforcement about the ownership, year, make, model and eventually, we hope, insurance coverage information.”
And I know they can pull up all of that info via just a license plate because when I was involved in a hit-and-run, I got a picture of the license plate as the other driver drove away. The responding officer was able to go in his car and come back 2 minutes later with all of that info at the scene…..the owner’s name, address, year-make-model, her insurance company name and policy number.

nope, dont like that. so some douchebag can come along and get all my info without my knowledge? no thanks.
Your plate number has info attached to it. Qr code speeds up the process and would cut down on transposition errors.
If someone can get your info from a Qr code, they could already do that with your plates.

Great

Instead of vehicles needing an inspection sticker, Landry said they will instead get a QR code costing $6 “that will be capable of providing instant information to law enforcement about the ownership, year, make, model and eventually, we hope, insurance coverage information.”
fricking terrible

Ehh, states are moving to digital plates. We will prob be the last to do this either way.
Texas already has this.
Some of you sound old.
A QR code would replace changing out inspection stickers and registration date stickers.

This isn't a digital plate, though. This is a QR code in addition to our plate, and an extra/unnecessary charge (and regulatory hoop).
And, from a freedom perspective, we need fewer ways for the state to track us, not more.
Plate readers should be illegal

I think as much as I hate the Inspection sticker, I'd rather it to the QR code.
But why? How is having the less intrusive one on your time, pocketbook and risk of a ticket worse? I get those who say we don’t need either one, but you have to make this take make sense to me

We need to at least have an annual check to make sure your flashers are working in case we get rains that are too heavy for the wipers to keep up on full blast.

They cost a lot of money. This would be cheaper.
And you are a little late on this not wanting to be able to track who owns what vehicle.
Like way late to the party.
I guess if you defended car thieves you would be against this. I’m cool with having my name attached to my vehicle.

Naw. I've been posting about our police state and the erosion of our rights for over 20 years at this point

So is this where having a drivers license and insurance is an erosion of our rights?
You are such a clown.

Well here in Alabama there are no inspection stickers. Vehicles don't get safety inspections at all. This results in a lot of people driving vehicles with no lights, cracked windshields, and other defective equipment. As a result, insurance companies know this and jack up premiums due to the fact. I'd prefer to pay $10 (last time I was in La, that's what it was) than the higher insurance premiums. Not to mention, get some of these trashy cars off the roads.

I'd still probably rather your insurance premium in Alabama than what we are charged in Louisiana.

First of all, all that information is provided when they run your plates.....or nowadays, scan your plates.

Will the QR code curl up like a cracklin in hot grease and fall off my windshield?
Probably. They should provide an extra QR code sticker sitting and waiting in the glove box for the inevitable Louisiana heat to do its magic.

Ok? This still doesn’t state why you prefer inspection stickers over the QR code. You’re all over the place here

What does that have to do directly with the impacts of plate readers?

$90!?
Well no, that's just the fee for the sticker. It isn't inclusive of the required $49 inspection at your local Jiffy Lube.

Driving is a privilege not a right. If you want to own a vehicle on the road, I would say consideration must be given to other drivers and property owners in the vicinity. The police in my neighborhood have cameras mounted on every corner of their cars and instantly know if someone with outstanding warrants is nearby. I appreciate not only having uninsured drivers removed from my streets, but also those with illegal firearms, assault charges, and arrest warrants.

In Oklahoma we got rid of inspection stickers in 2001. I can’t say if its better but its not worse. It was just a money scam and also made it harder on police. It gave people a false sense of safety.
It used to be a fed EPA requirement but states were given right to decide I think in 70/80’s?
