Letting Nimitz help liberate Cuba before retiring would be a beautiful thing

I think they should permanently station a carrier in the Gulf between the Yucatán and Cuba. Because why not?

Mine as well. You can see many scenes that end up in Top Gun that originate in Final Countdown

Expand NAS Pensacola and station it there.

Speaking of carriers, I once spent an amazing afternoon visiting with a World War II Navy Veteran. He served on a "Kaiser Coffin" doing picket duty protecting Admiral Halsey's Taskforce.

"Kaiser's Coffins" were derogatory nicknames for the Casablanca-class escort carriers (CVE) built by Henry J. Kaiser's shipyards during World War II. These small, mass-produced vessels were nicknamed for their perceived lack of armor, vulnerability to enemy fire, and poor stability, with crews joking that CVE stood for "Combustible, Vulnerable, and Expendable"

What an absolutely amazing generation. I miss them.

If it was on the way to be decommissioned, presumably the crew has already been reassigned. Where will they get another crew?

Should be kept and used only in the GoA. It's still the better than anything other countries have by far
