Once you take out all of the substance abusers you're left with this top three:
1. Frank Thomas
2. Ken Griffey Jr
3. Tony Gwynn

No steroids Barry was still better than all of those guys.
You take out his steroid years (everything before 1999) and he's still a first ballot HOF.

Here's a trivia question no one can answer without google. The same player led MLB in hits and doubles for the decade of the 90's. Who is it?
Fun fact, they never had a 200 hit season.

Probably either Mark Grace or Craig Biggio.

I'm gonna throw out something random like Edgar Martinez.

Grace had the most hits in the 90s

It is Grace. Maybe its just me, I would lose that bet if I didnt know it already.

I was a huge Frank Thomas fan growing up.
One of a few hitters to hit 500 homers and career average over .300.

In my opinion, Gwynn is the best hitter since Ted Williams to answer the OP.
.338 career average, 8 batting titles. Ridiculous.

Best pure hitter….Gwynn. The opinions of Maddux, etc are pretty well known.
Who better to answer a question like this than the guys who tried to get em out for years.

Gwynn was a Punch-and-Judy hitter who did everything he could to keep his BA.
Williams was a true power hitter as well as a hitter for extreme avg.
Gwynn was incredible no doubt, but the two arent really close.

I actually agree with you, he's the best since Williams but head to head it isn't really close. Williams is unique in that he could hit for average and power. Gwynn no doubt had the ability as well but sacrificed power for average.

I don’t disagree, but I think Ichiro is close. Imagine if he’d been in the majors at 22-24 years old

Frank, when you account for his sheet size, is one of the best pure hitters in baseball. You don't see many 6'5" 250lb hitters hitting .300+ for multiple seasons with great power and more walks than strikeouts.

Barry Bonds is the best baseball player of all time.

Pre-roided up Bonds had good speed and could play good defense in the outfield. 8 Gold Gloves. Four 30-30 seasons. A 40-40 season, and one season where he stole over 50 bases.
Then he got hugely juiced up, consistent threat to hit bombs, but became a liability in the outfield and couldn't run the bases for shite compared to his earlier years.

But Bonds was consistently good in the OF until his final two years. He also had 28 SB at 33 years old, dude was still stealing bases until he reached almost 40.
