Best home-use toolset/kit

Looking to get a basic toolset/box for the home to replace the random tools I have scattered around. Anyone have a favorite brand? Milwaukee? Kobalt? Black and Decker? Dewalt?

I would just get the cheapest set with a bunch of stuff in it. Amazon or harbor freight. No reason to spend a ton of something you use sparingly. If you find a tool you use so much that you break, buy that one tool from a quality manufacturer.

I have a DeWalt set that's on sale on Amazon for 165. I keep it in my utility closet for things needed around the house. Ive had it for years and used it as my primary set for a few years.
Now it's on back up duty in my house and doesn't see my shop buildings anymore (been replaced with "nicer" stuff) but it's always been handy and no issues. I throw it in my truck sometimes if I think i might need it out and about.
Amazon link
Amazon has it for 165.50 with normal price of 289.99. If i needed a decent set, I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up.

Im running Craftsmen. Not to expensive, large variety of tools and Ive had no issues in several years. Lowes runs alot of specials on free battery deals every few months.

If you're using them a little more frequently, I like Klein screwdrivers and pliers. Stanley, Kobalt, and several other known brands are equally capable and Klein may not be worth the added expense over those brands. The one pair of pliers that other brands don't replicate is the dikes. Most brands when you cut through something, the gap between the handles smashes your pink if it's between there. I won't own another pair of dikes than Klein's. Their side cutters also seem more beefy and easy to cut with.
Wrenches and socket sets, I've had cheap pairs and better brands. I usually end up losing the sockets before the tool becomes an issue.

I bought a Dewalt 99 piece set last year and it's been awesome. I throw it in my truck when on hunting trips.

Organization is almost as important as having the right tool in my opinion. If you can’t find it, it’s worthless. I’d look into getting a nice toolbox and you can grow from there.
Harbor Freight, Craftsman, Husky, etc. are decent tool boxes that you can always add/stack on to later once you get more tools. I’ve had the same Craftsman box for 30 years and can find any sized socket in less than 5 seconds.

I’m not aware of a “quality” tool kit that has all of this. You could get a Kobalt or Craftsman set of sockets, then buy a tool bag or box and fill it with a set of wrenches, players, screwdrivers, etc. Probably stay with Kobalt or craftsman and they should last you a lifetime or 3.
If you don’t use them much and will probably lose pieces, go to harbor freight and save some money.
If you want to go higher end on the tool storage, get Milwaukee Packout or Dewalt Tough system for portable storage.
For high end sockets, wrenches and tool storage look at snap-on

Flea Market - Most well-establised ones have a vendor or two selling used tools along with fresh-from-China shiny stuff. Stick to the bins full of whatever you need. Used premium brands are usually a bit higher but nothing like new. With luck you'll also find a canvas tool bag.
