There was a point in time not too long ago that I believed bringing back public executions would effectively curb crime. I look back and call myself a dumbass for remotely believing that would do anything but the opposite.

Of course it would... permanently removing one criminal at a time prevents any and all future crimes that criminal would commit.

Back in the day when I was growing up, if someone were accused / caught being a podophile, they would have the decency to kill themselves.

I remember those days; and those who didn't take care of it themselves were found tied to a fencepost along a county road beaten within an inch of their lives.
