At least 10 FBI employees who worked on former Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into President Trump's retention of classified records after he left the White House in 2021 were fired on Wednesday, multiple sources told CBS News. The firings came after Reuters reported that the FBI had subpoenaed records of phone calls made by FBI Director Kash Patel and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles when they were still both private citizens as part of Smith's probe into Trump. The Reuters article quoted Patel, who alleged that the FBI had secretly subpoenaed his phone records "using flimsy pretexts and burying the entire process in prohibited case files designed to evade all oversight." The Reuters article added that it had not independently verified any of Patel's claims.

Move the FBI HQs to South Dakota.

There needs to be a lot of this going on. Having everything within 40 miles of DC is insane especially in a world where we can communicate with each other from almost anywhere. Having everything this close together allows for politicization of what should be nonpolitical positions. It would also be disastrous if the DC area was ever targeted with a nuke. Spreading out govt. offices to different parts of the country makes a lot of sense. Congress members should be operating 90% of the time out of their own state/congressional district as well.

These govt agencies are sooo massive, how can you realistically expect things to happen that quickly? They first have to go in and find people who will be cooperative. They have get all the questioning done. They have to verify facts. They have to get the paperwork in order. They have to get legal approval. They have to do this to try and purge thousands and thousands of corrupt employees. There is no way this can just happen within days of a new administration.

How does the current FBI director come across the information that he was spied upon himself?
Shouldn't these agents And many others have been fired in the first three months?

I thought that the plan was to move a large number of their employees to Huntsville, Alabama.
Edit - googled my question
The FBI is significantly expanding its presence at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, with plans to move hundreds of employees and establish it as a premier law enforcement and technical hub. As of early 2025, 500+ employees are relocating to Huntsville, with, in total, over 1,500 personnel involved in expanded operations, including specialized training, cyber, and forensic divisions.
Key details regarding the FBI's move to Huntsville include:
Expansion Focus: Redstone Arsenal serves as a major hub for the Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center (TEDAC), cyber threat intelligence, and digital forensics.
Personnel Relocation: Beyond the initial 500, additional employees and agents are being moved from the D.C. area to Huntsville.
Infrastructure Growth: The FBI is constructing new buildings and training facilities to support this expansion.
Regional Partnerships: The FBI is partnering with local institutions, including the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Alabama A&M University, for research and recruiting.
Headquarters Decision: While thousands of staff are moving to Huntsville, in July 2025, the FBI reaffirmed that its primary headquarters will remain in Washington, D.C., at the Ronald Reagan Building complex.

Fired?
How about prosecuted? That’s what needs to happen or it will continue.

Hey downvoters:
Let's see what statute Kash and his lightweights will inevitably use against these 10 traitors:
Key federal statute and potential penalties include:
18 U.S.C. § 793 (Gathering, transmitting or losing defense information): Individuals can face fines or imprisonment for not more than ten years, or both, for offenses such as mishandling or improperly transmitting national defense information to an unauthorized party.
I'm certain it will be glorious
Why you guys continue to defend this guy is amazing. He's been an absolute trainwreck.

I am not following your logic. It sounds to me like you think if DC was hit by a missile and it killed everyone in Congress that that would somehow be a bad thing???

It was hidden in a room . They couldn’t destroy it. The agents tried to bury it in a room of other documents. An FBI good guy basically told Patel … look in that room and you’re going to find a goldmine

The agents are civil service employees. The bureaucratic process for terminating likely takes longer than 3 months.

No, just do away with the institution altogether.

I doubt this is a normal caveat. They just have to throw doubt on everything involving Trump.
How often is a news outlet able to independently verify FBI claims.

Ever stop to think that maybe they were trying to get them to retire/resign to avoid the embarrassment to the agency and that this was the last resort?

This info was just discovered within the week. It was deliberately siloed to avoid discovery.
