Inspired by the drunken hawk thread
Used to be a hobby of kings. Still is in the middle east I think. Also talked about extensively in the Joe Pickett books which are good reads
Seems like a fun hobby if you live in the country. Supposedly red tail hawks are pretty easy to train

My grandma sold her Ford Falcon to a guy who made it into a racecar

used to have a friend that was into this, he had a summer job with the CIA, got all disillusioned at what he saw and began giving classified info to another friend of his who would travel to Mexico City and sell it to the rooskies, I believe he used "the Snowman" as his code name, that's all I've got

You can get a permit to do it in Texas. Also the state hires some falconers to hunt grackels in cities. Texas Monthly had an article about it.

I think birds are extremely fascinating. It's fun to feed them and try to identify the different species.
Nature is awesome.

I think it's cool, but not "into" it. The falconry show at the La. Ren. Fest is one of the best things there.

No, but I do have three macaws (Scarlet, Military and a Blue and Gold) that are apart of the family.

IIRC in Louisiana, you have to practice under a master falconer for a few years before you can get a license. In that period you must catch your own hawk. Had a coworker years ago that was into it.

During the early work being performed at Venture Global in Cameron they had a falconer hired to keep the birds from nesting on the site. One of his falcons in training got up too high and caught in the wind and ended up way out in the marsh. I went with him to go track it down. Ended up finding it on Central Canal of the Sabine Refuge.

Got 2 friends that do it. Its a lot of work. Those kings have someone that trains it most likely and takes care of it. They just show up for the fun

Nate Romanowski was who I thought of when I read the thread title. Great books.
