- The post reports a Kremlin statement claiming Ukraine is pursuing nuclear weapons, with Russia planning to share details with the US, amid ongoing tensions from the expired New START treaty in early 2026.
- Ukraine surrendered its Soviet-era nuclear arsenal in 1994 under the Budapest Memorandum, receiving security assurances from Russia, the US, and UK; similar Russian allegations surfaced in 2022 but lacked independent verification.
- No major Western news sources confirm the claim as of February 24, 2026, suggesting it may function as rhetorical escalation in the information domain of the Ukraine conflict.

We should have let them keep them in the first place.

They had nukes as recently as the early 90’s.

1) this is from the Kremlin
2) Ukraine having nukes would have prevented the invasion......

Does Russia's former President Dmitry Medvedev have a say in this?

Hard to believe Russia on this, but if Ukraine does obtain nukes and they use one on Russia, it would be a terrible escalation that would have domino affects.

They couldn't use them, IIRC Moscow had the controls, etc.

Yes but Ukraine had the weapons and the scientists who knew how to reprogram them or in worst case scenario break them down and rebuild them so they could control them. That is why giving jobs to Ukraine's and Belarus's nuclear scientists in the west was such a big deal in the 90s.

I am more concerned that Russia is starting to push the narrative that Ukraine is trying to get nukes because they have realized they cannot win the war conventionally without a massive mobilization. In which case they are getting their people ready for a massive mobilization and/or using tactical nukes against Ukraine's fortress belt in the Donbas.

If true (consider the source) your title should be "Ukraine trying to get nuked?"

You don't believe that our defense contractor people couldn't have figured out a way to reconfigure them?

A good rule of thumb? Any time you see "Ukraine," replace it with the word "Globalists." Then you will understand what's really going on.

We should have them tactical nukes last year when it became (painfully) obvious that Putin has no real desire for peace.

Low yield but pack a big punch.

Russia contaminated Ukraine with endless radiation in 1986 at Chernobyl. Remember?
