NHL schedule issues are a real thing. They start playing right away.
It would be understandable if the gathering was at a later time for more availability and convenience but I understand wanting to do it now because of the high.

This sounds exactly like an answer my wife and her friends give each other [all women really] … The idea of having a flexible schedule does not compute with them. The literally can’t function if plans call for going with the flow.
