When are we going to do something to take action against this? Mexico is a total and complete failed state with either no capacity to deal with this level of escalation or way too corrupt to do it.

This cannot be allowed so close to our country if we want to take the Monroe doctrine seriously in a modern form

Internal issues in Mexico has literally nothing whatsoever to do with the Monroe Doctrine. Both it and the Roosevelt Corrollary are aimed at European interference in LA.

What do you want to happen? Put half a million troops in Mexico for two decades?

And you’re comfortable taking this risk? What will you say or tell the peoples families who will be brutally killed if and when it does cross over?

Nope, let them take care (ie. kill each other) of their own turf. For now! We'll watch, observe, and be prepared to defend our homeland.

Let them fight and then those left can petition to be our 53rd state after Greenland and Canada, and then we can help.

I’d be content with heavily militarizing the border at the very least.

As long as it doesn’t spill over? So Americans won’t die until it spills over? Then what? Then go in?

I’m not suggesting it is time now, but you cannot wait until it spills over before taking action.

Mexico should arm their population.

This latest situation has proven to show the populace is at a distinct disadvantage when the bad guys are the only ones with guns.

Look at auto-defensas. Cartels are hesitant to frick around with these guys b/c they're armed.

Panama has a short sea to sea border to guard than the rio grande. I see where you are going with this.

Maybe even a shorter border at Veracruz.

we should tell our citizens to cease all travel to mexico since mexico cannot offer proper safety for our tourists. if you go to mexico, do not expect american help.

The Monroe doctrine only applies to foreign countries interfering with countries in the Americas.

I made a "A" in American history.

This will end like it always does. CIA picks a side, that side wins, peace returns

I know what it is dude. I stipulated modern form for a reason.

The cartels ARE the power and the state in mexico. They interfere with us domestically in many ways from benign to deadly as well as heavily threaten our interest all over the hemisphere

I would consider this part of the Monroe doctrine taking into account the way things stand now

Let Sheinbaum handle it. It's going to get messy. But this is something that SHE needs to do.

Do we have to do everything? Jesus Christ. Some of yall expect something for every single event. It’s tiring.

She can’t and doesn’t have the capacity assuming she wanted to.

Mexico has a pretty small amount of elite marines and special forces who aren’t corrupt and mostly act on American intelligence, just as they did when they killed the guy that kicked all of this off.

This is not an army or the type of force capacity you need to combat open insurrection

I just said we should do something.

I said I’d be content with heavily militarizing the border for now.

I swear many of you guys are so far gone at this point into the “muh we can never use military force for any reason or it’s bad” camp you don’t seem to understand what the supposed main purpose of an army even is

To have an insurgency you first must have a surgency.

Mexico hasn't had one since the Maya's.

Well, shite. I'm leaving Wednesday for Arizona for a week and will be a couple of hours north of the border. Of course a fricking border war has to break out a few days before.
