Why are Germans always so good at bobsledding?

Talent development or technology? I read that they benefit from BMW engineering teams.

It sounds like their sled technology is above and beyond all others

Good question…I was just thinking about this….
IMO, it has got to be that the programs are just more developed due to the popularity of winter sports in the country.

Yeah but the maintenance costs are ridiculous.

Sled technology and significant number (relatively speaking) of places for their elite athletes to train.
I believe the US has two places. Most countries have one (or none). I think the Germans have four or five so they aren’t just memorizing a single course.

I have noticed shite like this all through the games…our sleds look like a pinball game bouncing between walls!

There was a NASCAR owner or driver (it’s been like two decades and I’m not a NASCAR guy so I can’t remember) who was significantly involved in US bobsledding and within a couple of years, the men won the Olympics.
I think funds make a huge difference.

There’s a WWII Nazi joke somewhere in here but I’m too hopped up on hockey to work on it.

I would not doubt this at all….

They said at the beginning of the Olympics that there are 12 facilities in the world to train.
4 of those are in Germany.
"Numbers" and "competition".
More people can grow and develop in the sport. But there are a limited number of spots available, so every practice run is stressful and important.
Imagine the Alabama football roster in 60s and 70s.

They were a powerhouse in the East German days and that was in just about all the sledding events.
Maybe some of the old infrastructure is still in place.

Ever wonder why Sweden and Finland are very good at hockey but Norway is not into hockey at all?

Money, Germans like sledding and sponsorship $$ = a good living.
Not so much anywhere else. In the US all the potential sledders are playing football.

They've been training they're whole lives. Most US winter olympic athletes converted from other sports and been training only a few years.

That was one of the Bodine brothers I believe
