The Department of Homeland Security is temporarily halting TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, two of the most widely used trusted-traveler programs in the United States, amid a partial government shutdown.

In a statement to CNN regarding the suspension of those programs, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said the Transportation Security Administration and Customs and Border Patrol “are focusing on the general traveling public at our airports and ports of entry and have suspended courtesy and special privilege escorts.”

The suspension of TSA PreCheck lanes at US airports would require enrolled travelers to use standard security screening. It’s uncertain how international passengers returning or entering the US through Global Entry will be impacted as most of this process is done at automated kiosks. The eventual disruptions are likely to increase wait times at customs and passport control.

Anyone traveling anytime soon? I would definitely be getting to the airport early if flying over the next few weeks + needing to check bags. If anyone here is traveling, feel free to post experiences here so others know what TSA or GE wait times are like

Thats just fricking stupid right there... I'd love to hear the logic behind this?

The shutdown in October didn't have this and that went on for a month. Seems like a great way to frick the people you have the least concern with security wise.

This makes me irrationally angry. fricking Democratic clown show. At least my flight in a couple of weeks is out of BTR and not MSY, with the incompetence there, it’s going to be a real shitshow.

Politics [on] off

Likely a strategic move by Duffy to make the bread and butter Americans feel the pain and open their eyes to the sham from the Dems

Me too. The PreCheck "screening" uses the same personnel for the initial ticket check, and the metal detector I go through at IAH (Terminal D) is the same line pilots and women with strollers go through, which will still be operating. And then there is CLEAR, which is probably a contractual obligation to operate.

I presume MPC is "suspended" too, which again is the same line the crew uses.

Exactly... so you aren't saving anything by doing this and are fricking people that paid for a service.

See my post above as to the likely reason.

Woke up to this and both my wife and I laughed so hard.

We both got GE pretty recently and our first trip with both of us having it is coming up.

Yeah agreed. I think this will hit the big cities the hardest and maybe that's their goal? ATL, JFK, SFO, DEN, LAX, ORD, IAH, etc. Smaller regional airports like BTR, LFT really won't see a difference

Let us know! SLC on a Sunday may be a mess with no pre check with all the skiers leaving today

They still had pre check lines setup and operational

Took me longer to get through Delta than it did TSA

The upstairs main security station at Salt Lake City was a slightly different story. No huge lines, but my travel companion went through this checkpoint and he said he waited about 10 minutes.

Backed down on PreCheck.

At this time, TSA PreCheck remains operational with no change for the traveling public. As staffing constraints arise, TSA will evaluate on a case by case basis and adjust operations accordingly.

Shutting down Global Entry makes no sense at all

For GE you just...keep walking?
